do these work on the thumb?

It depends on how long your thumb is I have really short fat fingers and had to return these and make my own splint

how do I know what size to get, I see no guidance for this.

There is a pdf file link in the full product description. It asks you to print out a sizing band at default printer settings. However, using a new Brother printer, it printed out 1/16 of an inch too small, and I had to bump it up to 103% to make it match the 3½" marker on the printout.

Are these very rigid or semi-flexible? Could I type while wearing it?

They are Rigid n strong. I use one on my pinky n one on my thumb and I type all day on & off with these. I have RA and when my fingers are swollen n stuff, to bend them gives me extreme pain !! So I bought these splints to prevent my fingers from bending you can take them off, move them around. Also another note: I have bigger sizes, there’s one where it comes w/ 32 sizes on a big round keychain. When my fingers r swollen or if ur finger is Broke, you will go they several different sizes. So getting the 3 pack in ur size is perfectly fine, but you may need a few in the sizes before & after I hope this helps !! Good Luck !!

I bought the smallest set but had to buy an additional set, the ones that fit me in the first set didn’t have duplicates so that’s why I needed the other set. Seems like it’s one set per hand. I have Hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and these really help to keep my fingers from over flexing. I predominantly wear them in my middle and pointer fingers. Good fit and have been durable.

These are a game changer for folks with joint disorders

I have a rare connective tissue disorder that makes my joints really weak. Recently I started having my joints in my fingers come out of joint while typing. These totally rectified the issue and allow me to continue to do my largely computer-based job without harming my body. I highly recommend getting the sizing guide kit of finger braces. It will help you determine what is the correct size for you. Or just pick a size range that you think will be in your range and then purchase more of the sizes that fit for you. Definitely recommend getting multi-sized pack to get an idea of what size is appropriate for you.
