Whirlpool 6-918873 Silverware Basket

A little venting and then on to review. So I had to buy a new silverware basket due to the fact that my dishwasher from a housing purchase did not come with one. I still can't get over the fact that the previous homeowner took the stupid silverware basket. Anyways, I tried to find the basket specific to my dishwasher model from Whirlpool, but was having a problem. Apparently finding part numbers is made out to be some huge process that you have to call a "parts distributor" to get any help. So I went through all that only to find out that the specific silverware basket for my dishwasher was going to cost something like 70 bucks. 70 freaking dollars! For a plastic basket! So I head over to Amazon and type in "whirlpool silverware basket" and to my surprise this lovely page pops up.REVIEW:For less than 10 bucks I got a rather large basket that splits into two separate smaller baskets, I assume to fit almost any dishwasher model. Each smaller basket has a top that has cutouts for individual pieces of silverware. Yours may or may not fit into the pre-cutout spots. But have no fear! If something is too big to fit, then you can remove the tops and have access to just the basket itself.Also, each basket has a handle on it like the picture shows. They both fit rather well into the front of the lower basin basket and allow for easy removal of the basket and the silverware they hold.I'd have to say I was quite relieved and surprised to find these on Amazon for as cheap as they are. They work wonderfully and when split in half would most likely work in any dishwasher I've ever used.Kudos to the seller as well. While the "delivery date" on my original order was an 18 day window [Sept 2-20], when I got the email from Amazon that it was fulfilled on August 30 it arrived on Sept 1. That was a good bonus as well!

I purchased these Whirlpool silverware basket to use in my 18 year old Maytag dishwasher. The only thing I don't like about the old Maytag is the silverware basket: it has only two divisions with silverware division cover and that cover does not have the most user friendly slots designs. So the silverware tends to stack together and not get cleaned. The Whirlpool silverware basket comes in two halves that can be separated. I hang half of the whirlpool silverware basket on the side of the bottom rack. The divider cover helps to keep silverware separated. Silverware comes out better cleaned, and rarely slip into the basket, or though the bottom holes. Granted, this additional basket takes up space originally designed for larger dishes or baking pan. But I don't need that much space on normal days. For parties, I usually run more than one round of dishwasher anyways. And these baskets are easily attached or removed.Though not used for its intended brand, I am very pleased with the design and quality of this product.

Who would've thunk that a dishwasher utensil basket could change your life. For years I struggled to keep the old Maytag basket together with tie straps and wire but my fork kept finding its way through the bottom no matter what I did. Having to fish it out of the bottom of the machine frightened my fork and hurt my back. Maytag would gladly sell me a replacement but I felt getting a loan for this item would be silly... very expensive for another piece of junk. So, as usual, I turned to Amazon for help and they delivered... literally!This basket fits anywhere because it splits in half and can be hung on any available rail. I keep one half by the sink to load dirty silverware while my clean stuff waits for my selection from inside the washer. It seems durable and well made. Both halves have simple, sturdy covers that remove easily and the inside dividers are flow through for improved washing/scrubbing action. What a great idea at a great price! Now my fork rests comfortably and securely in place while being showered with warm, lathery water then awaits my return to select it once again.Recommended!!

Bought this when the basket for our Viking dishwasher fell apart (after a year... go figure). This basket is very sturdy and well made. It includes the ability to split the basket apart into two units (which we never use). It also features a cover on each side to either hold small parts in, or to keep the cutlery separated during washing. This isn't hinged (it just snaps in) so if you are cleaning baby bottles or something else with small parts it might be a pain to snap on and off. We just took one off, so one side is for regular cutlery and one side is for big items (wooden spoons, spatulas, whisks, etc).In the photos it looks like each side has 4 compartments, but it's really 2 small and 1 large compartment on each side. This seems to work well for us.This basket does everything it is supposed to. Ours came with the handle (another reviewer said that theirs didn't) and looks exactly like the photo. After owning 5 dishwashers I'd say that this basket would probably have fit in all of them, including our Bosch and Viking units.
