I stand by sponge filters, and this one fits in my 20 gallon long, its a bit large but fits comfortably. The extra filtration with the ceramic balls are nice, but the suction cups (for me) didn't work well so thankfully once its water logged sinks down. The parts come apart easy, and imo a little too easy. When I fiddle with positioning it popped off but once inside the tank positioned it doesn't come apart. I let it run alongside my older and smaller sponge filter (about a week and a half) to seed the bacteria before i completely took out the old filter. It definitely works better than my other one! my loaches like to hide under them, though be warmed if the top comes over the water it is very noisy compared to my old ones (though it doesnt bother me because i like the sound of water)

This is an easy to handle sponge filter. Good for minimal tank setups. It’s the easiest to maintain that I’ve had; however, it is not made to keep water clear in tanks with loose substrate. I would only use this for small tanks or temporary setups. Super cool easy to use filter but not for big jobs.The best option for a filter, especially if you have live plants or loose substrate is going to be a canister filter. I’ve had multiple brands of the regular pump filters and each one died in a month or two. Save your time and just go with a canister filter for any loose substrate or plant setups.

I bought this to replace a large regular sponge filter because I really liked the idea of being able to add bio media with the sponge bio media capacity.This is roughly 2 to 3 times the size of the filter it’s replacing but I’m okay with that because of the compartments that I can customize any way I want. In one side I did use the biomedia included after rinsing due to dustiness . It seems good quality, in the other compartment I put crushed coral to help keep my tank ph stable and it also houses beneficial bacteria on its surface.It holds nicely to the wall of the aquarium so I don’t mind it being larger. It has an adjustable flow tube on top but I just have it in the lowest position. So far it’s very quiet.I think this one will be pretty easy to clean, but I did buy the smaller version for my shrimp tank and I think that one is going to be a little tougher.I’m hoping they work half as well as the sponge filters they’re replacing

I have this in a ten gallon tank.y tank was green and I was having difficulty keeping it looking good. I put this in and within three days the water had started to clear. The suction cups aren't that great. The sponges and filter material are easy to take out and clean.

I bought this based on the great reviews, but unfortunately it was not powerful enough for my 29 gallen tank. I added an additional pump to help. It gets dirty within days of cleaning it. (Very dirty)I think this filter would be perfect for a smaller tank or maybe even one with less fish.I do however like that I don’t have to worry about a cartridge every month.

I’ve had this unit for about 1 month and have not had any issues. Super easy to assemble and install.

I wish I had a third aquarium so I would have an excuse to buy one more of these. lol. Well, I am really that satisfied with this product. I travel, and someone else has to take care of my fish when I am deployed. When I arrived home this time, my aquarium was in really bad shape. It had not been cleaned in months and the person had grossly over-fed my fish. The filter had stopped working several weeks ago. My fish where in really bad shape as well. 26 year old fish at risk of dying from neglect. I vacuumed as much of the debris as I could and I changed 30 percent of the water but there was still so much debris I couldn't count the fish to see how many were still in there. I had this filter that I had ordered simply because I got it free from Amazon Vine. I popped it in (took me about two minutes) and it immediately started cleaning the water. I could see the debris as it attached itself to the filters. That is another thing I like about this product. You see it working and you see when the filters need to be cleaned. I cleaned the filters after about three hours. The tank already looked much better. The next morning the water looked Chrystal clear. Even though the water looked crystal clear, the filters were dirty again, so I cleaned them. And the next day, I could see with my own eyes how much more filth had been in that clean looking water. I cleaned them yet again. I immediately ordered (and yes, paid for) a second sponge filter for my other aquarium.

This works great in my 20 gallon tank. The foam filters are easy to take off and wash out. It seems to move a lot of water and keeps my tank nice and clean. It's quiet. The suction could be a little stronger but its not a huge issue. Would recommend.

I got this today and set it up, so far this seems to be great! Cleared my water up really well and moves the surface just enough! I also really like the fact that it has the removable bases, which I added my own materials to and not what it came with! Did filter media on one side and carbon on the other! Seems to be really quiet and perfect strength for my betta!

It works great ... the air pump hose did not fit but I had another piece on hand so all worked out. Next time I'll make sure A fits with B.

i was skeptical of useing a sponge filter but with the added bio rings i gave it a shot.works well and the slide off sponges really make it simple to clean.
