I purchased Broadway Musicals Show by Show for my 11-year-old daughter, who’s a huge Broadway fan, and she absolutely loved it! Perfect gift for my daughter who is the director of her high school’s musical. It has every musical you can think of with all the history in an easy to follow format. I can’t wait to give it to her!

Although you can tell the most recent author of this edition writes a bit biased and puts their strong opinions into the "summaries" rather than just summarizing the show, it is still a fun book to have and I like looking up my favorite musicals to see what else I can learn about them. Justice for Anastasia and Finding Neverland! This most recent author did 2 of my favorite shows dirty while singing nothing but praise for the spongebob musical. Really now? I like the 80s/90s summaries better because they just tell the facts rather than putting in some rude descriptors that aren't facts but just opinions. I thought these were supposed to be synopses, not critic reviews... Anyways... Still a really cool book to have.

I bought this for a friend whose son is in musicals. It is such a valuable resource that I will buy one for myself.

Just received this book and my Broadway obsessed girlfriend absolutely loves it. It provides a small summary (and sometimes photos) of practically every musical, along with cast and crew with many indexes to help sort through the information-which we appreciate!. It's just something fun to thumb through like a Broadway IMDB book. Highly recommended for the bookshelf and to have something a little more personal than always resorting to Googling every actress and show.

My daughter was thrilled and surprised to receive this book. She says it is very informative, providing an extensive selection of Broadway Musicals’ history dating back to 1866. The plethora of information in this ninth edition is amazing. Some reviewers complain that certain shows are not included, however what IS there is truly fascinating. If you think you know a lot about Broadway musicals, think again. After reading this book you will realize there is so much more to enjoy learning.

This is an impressive looking book. It covers the history of Broadway performances up to 'Tootsie' in 2018 .... with details of every show, organised in date of performance order ..... With a brief synopsis, details of the main cast members, songs and a little in review of how the show was accepted. It would be marvellous if not for two things .... Firstly on my copy pages fell out ... I had to return it for a new copy. It's a hefty book and this does sometimes happen to thick paperbacks if the binding isn't too good .... and more significantly it makes mistakes ..... not so much regarding the dates and so on ... but ... for example the Bacharach musical is described as a 'Juke Box Musical' (i.e comprised of an artists' existing songs ...like 'Mama Mia' was of Abba songs) .... It wasn't ... 'Promises, Promises' was written a a musical complete with new songs ..... a couple of which later became hits .... but only a couple. This seems like a pretty careless blunder and all you need to do is look at the soundtrack, or read about it in any other reference book to know .... and there are others .... quite a few actually .... So the joy of the book is taken away by the fact that you can't rely on what you are reading to be accurate. So if it didn't fall to bits (which my second copy hasn't done yet) and if you could be sure you were getting correct information it would be fantastic ... but as it is .....
