Good looking box--updated!!! Not happy!!!
Very pretty, nice quality. I didn't try to open though. I left that to my grandsons! Update on my review: I finally saw this box unpacked, and was greatly disappointed. I had one of these as a kid, and thought my grandsons would enjoy them. This was an imitation, not anything like the one I had. What looks like wood inlay designs are only printed paper decals. So, so sorry that I bought them, and unfortunately, the price wasn't cheap like the box.

Definitely worth the money even though it lacks a bit in craftsmanship
I have a few of these Yusegi boxes (also known as Kiyusegi) and the oldest along with several others were crafted in Japan. The Japanese crafted ones are so well made it is difficult to see the seems, joints fit tight and some have paintings on the surfaces vs. mosaic patterns. However this inexpensive one I bought is still worth what I paid for it. It is still fun. Not only did I note the differences in quality between this one and the original Yusegi I have from Japan; as I held it in my hand this Yusegi box brought back some memories. My grandfather gave my first Yusegi about 45 years ago. He said he got it about 25 or so years after he was discharged from the army. Grandpa referenced a lot of things to how long it was before or after the war. That would be the great war . . . the war to end all wars . . . World War One. Grandpa was a Scottish Highlander. He got it from my dad when when my dad was discharged from the US army after returning from Japan. Dad was in Japan 'collecting' weapons (vs. dodging bullets) after the bomb was dropped. Later in life my dad befriended and worked with a former Japanese soldier who was amused by the Yusegi and opened it immediately. Dad said the Japanese were fine craftsmen (and formidable warriors). Judging by the quality of the Yusegi box I have from Japan I would have to agree. However as I said this one is still well made enough to be well worth what it costs.

Functional, but not well made
Looks nice until itโs been opened a few times and the veneer starts flaking off near the joints. One of the sliders was very very stiff - nearly unusable, but loosened up a bit as it was used. Overall an ok puzzle box, but I wouldnโt buy it if I had had an opportunity to look it over first.

very poor quality
This arrived with practically no packaging, the box you see with the paper thin bubble wrap inside an ENVELOPE. One end has a piece that won't stay in place and the piece on the other in was frozen in place and the top long corner was already broken when I opened it. Very cheaply made and not worth $1. No value and frankly after seeing it I would be embarassed to give this as a gift.

Fun challenge, good quality
Challenging, good quality. The only way I could get 11 steps out of it was to count things like "turn it over." But plenty of steps to make it a fun challenge.

Mine was defective
I had to return the item. I am unsure if it was just the box I received, or if they are all like this, but it was defective. I wish I had gotten pictures. I have owned 2-3 authentic puzzle boxes already, and the issues I came across made this particular item seem very cheaply made. So, the issue... One face that unlocks the box was exceptionally loose, which made it VERY DIFFICULT to open and close the box. I knew the steps, but because the face would shift, it wouldn't be able to interact well enough with the internal mechanisms that opened and closed the box. I struggled with it for a while before I finally got it back closed. It it were just an item for myself, I may have bit the bullet & kept it. But it was intended as a gift. I couldn't waste any time in sending if back. I feel you should not worry about buying it. You can always send it back if it doesn't work.

It is nice
My Grandson loves puzzles and I thought this would be a challenge. He had it opened in 5 minutes. It is a very nice box, my GS is a very smart kid.

If this is item is under twenty dollars definitely worth it.
The product is not stunning wood quality but for twenty dollars I think it is fair that a bunch of specifically cut wooden pieces that form a pretty descent puzzle is valued at that. I would think if you wanted to give a gift but wanted to have something cool to put it in or maybe a letter or something. I found it challenging to put back together more then to open. It is not complicated. But maybe that is a good thing especially if you give it to a child. I wished that there were more things like this. Maybe there are but I haven't discovered them.

Clever, but cheaply made.
Intricate and cleverly built, but very cheap quality build. Parts do not slide smoothly at all as they are made of a low quality grainy wood that has not been properly smoothed. Overall I don't recommend this product, however the price being what it is, it's not a tremendous waste of money.

Avoid!! Terrible quality!
I'm not sure if the retailers started using a different manufacturer, because this thing is such bad quality, that I don't understand how it has any good reviews. My husband and I almost broke it, trying to make it work (all the joints wobble disturbingly). It is NOT worth $20.
