From creative genius Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas) comes Frankenweenie, a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new leash on life can be monstrous.A stop-motion animated film, Frankenweenie was filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience. Presented by Disney, Frankenweenie is directed by Tim Burton, produced by Tim Burton and Allison Abbate, from a screenplay by John August, based on an original idea by Tim Burton. The Frankenweenie original motion picture soundtrack score is by Oscar-nominated and GRAMMY-winning composer Danny Elfman. Elfman has established himself as one of Hollywood's leading film composers and has written close to 50 film scores featuring his unique sound including Dark Shadows, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Milk, Chicago, Batman, Spiderman, Men in Black trilogy, Edward Scissorhands and Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Entertaining if typical Elfman family-friendly score
Though it wasn’t a hit, I thought FRANKENWEENIE was Tim Burton’s best film in years (though I did also like BIG EYES). Released in 2012 after DARK SHADOWS, the film was for me a return to form for Burton and it was the better of the two movies. Of course, it was nice to see his frequent musical collaborator Danny Elfman be there as well. Though I don't think it's better than the pair's first stop-motion effort, the Burton-produced THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (that was simply one-of-a-kind), I do like it more than CORPSE BRIDE. This score is in keeping with Elfman's family-friendly scores of the time such as CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, CHARLOTTE’S WEB and MEET THE ROBINSONS, a sound which in various ways still continues to this day (such as with MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN).“Main Titles” introduces the lovely if not exactly memorable main theme, a sort of mini-waltz played on woodwinds that has a lot in common with the themes in those other scores. “Game of Death” is the film’s turning point and “The Funeral” is a very touching follow-up. The action really starts with the driving “Electricity" and “Re-Animation" is appropriately full of energy. After a few humorous tracks (including a homage to a certain Franz Waxman theme) the action gets going again. “Getting Ready” is an exciting primer for the big action climax, which starts with the thrilling “Making Monsters”, continues with “Pool Monsters Attack” and “Mad Monster Party” (love that track title homage!), and concludes appropriately with “Final Confrontation”. “Happy Ending” wraps up the score and two bonus tracks (“Alternate Main Titles” and “Over the Fence”) wrap up the album. It’s interesting to compare and contrast this with DARK SHADOWS, both the film and the score. While this film is one of Burton’s most inspired, it has one of Elfman’s most conventional scores. Furthermore, while the other film had a more interesting score, this one has a more entertaining album. It’s just shy of an hour, but it flows by really smoothly.

Elfman fans will not be disappointed.
Danny Elfman has definitely matured as a composer over the course of his career, and even if he's shed some of the quirks that made so much of his early work so immediately identifiable, the overall growth in musical depth more than compensates for it. "Frankenweenie" is another in a long line of exceptional scores for Elfman. It may not be his most memorable work, but that's hardly a criticism for someone who's been responsible for at least 3 film/television themes that have become a part of American culture in and of themselves. Elfman fans will not be disappointed.

Fun
Danny Elfman is one of my favorite composers, and this latest offering from him ranks up there with the best of his work. The music here is at times tender and sweet, filled with wonder and fun, and yes, haunting in the old fashion get out your biggest organ haunting, reminiscent of old horror movies like Frankenstein and the Phantom of the Opera. Truly grand with a flair for the dramatic. Love the use of harp on The Bride/Edgar Knows. A Premonition is wonderfully spacey. A great addition to my collection of his film work.

Solid Elfman work
This album hits on all the expected notes for an Elfman fantasy score, even down to some familiar thematic constructs. That makes this an extremely familiar listen that doesn't have the memorable qualities of, say, Edward Scissorhands, but it also makes it a pleasant album that expertly balances heart with monster-music parody.

Danny Elfman is great - as usual
Yet another great score by Danny Elfman. I love his music. Been following him since his Ongo Boingo days. His music is wonderful at drawing you in and adding to whatever movie you're watching.

LOVE IT!! ONE OF DANNY ELFMAN'S BEST YET!
This is one of Danny Elfman's best score, one of the best score of this year. It goes back to his older type of music like TNBC and Sleepy Hollow with a twist like Mars Attacks! sound to it. The bonus track has a song by Winona Ryder that is really cute, that takes me back to Beetlejuice. Such a great soundtrack, i'm glad I purchased it.

great Danny Elfman score
This is one of my favourite Elfman scores (behind Batman and possibly Edward Scissorhands), and the best in recent years. The film itself was surprisingly much better than anticipated as I didn't know how the short live-action film could be made better, but Frankenweenie is a very good film thanks to this great Danny Elfman score. (The big bonus for me is the short Disney intro cue which turns suddenly odd and slightly sinister - so much fun.) It's a good full sounding score with great orchestrations.
