PlexiDor Performance Pet Doors for Dogs and Cats - Door Mount Dog Door with Lock and Key - Silver, Large Sizes

I am a single, fairly un-handy woman, and I was able to install this dog door over the course of two days. I'm not going to say it wasn't frustrating, time-consuming, and difficult, but I was ultimately able to do it. My door is paneled and 1 3/4" thick, and I had a little bit of trouble getting my jigsaw through it. Because I was struggling, the cut was quite messy. Fortunately, the frame around the dog door covered a multitude of sins, and it actually looks great and is firmly in place. I purchased the medium size for my two corgis (one of whom is 24 pounds and approximately 11" high at the shoulder, the other is a 12 week-old puppy and only 9.5 pounds), and even having to hop up a step to use it, it's big enough for them. And unlike my old dog door, it's not big enough for a person to fit through, fortunately. The dogs learned to maneuver the saloon-door style within about two days - even the puppy has no problem with it. I read one review somewhere that said this door was noisy, but I don't find that at all. There is a noise as the dog comes through it, yes, but I don't find it unduly loud by any means. The construction of this door is extremely high quality, and the cold winter air that was whooshing in through my old dog door has now been almost completely curtailed. There's a HUGE difference between this and the flap-style door I had in terms of weather-proofing and quality of construction. Another nice feature is the two means of locking the door. The two saloon doors can be locked in the shut position (for when you don't want your dogs to be able to roam out freely, like at night), and then there's also a heavy metal plate that actually bolts over the dog door from the inside (for longer-term use, like vacations). I'm really pleased with this purchase, and I look forward to a much lower heating bill this winter. This dog door was worth every penny!

This may be an expensive dog door but it is worth evey penny. I have 5 large dogs that use it constantly. The fuzz strip between the doors keeps the cold air out, unlike a flap door that curls over time leaving a gap. The door does not blow open even with high wind. The plexiglass is easy to clean, which not only keeps it looking nice, but allows the dogs to see through it. I bought my first one in 2001 for my old house. It lasted for years with heavy use, so when I needed a new dog door for a new house, there was no question that I was going to buy the same door. I only had one issue with my old door after several years of very heavy use where a spring on one of the panels broke and it did not swing anymore. I thought I was going to have to replace it. I called the manufacturer who sold me a set of springs and assured me I could fix it myself, which I did. I was thrilled with the customer service.

The door is beautiful and I can see it working for some breeds very well but our greyhounds would not take to it. Their long noses are too sensitive to push on the xl size doors and they don’t like the doors rubbing on their sides. Sadly we need to return and go back to flap style.

I researched extensively and opted to purchase the PlexiDor pet door. It cost more than the cheap, local models, but well worth it, particularly after it's been installed. My dogs are still in process of learning (I have multiple dogs and it's not even been installed a full week yet!), and as long as I "start" the opening with some, everyone can do it. My dogs range from 25 lbs to 75 lbs, so the large is perfect for all -- even my little tripod girl has no trouble! Also, I had a fluke thing...when the package shipped, it had been packed at the manufacturer with the wrong external trim (it was for a wall installation, not a door)...I wasn't sure what to do to correct the situation in the fastest and least painful (to me) way, so found the PlexiDor site and the Contact Us link and sent them a message explaining. Of course this all happened on a weekend. First thing Monday morning a Customer Service rep called and shipped out (at their expense) the replacement trim, which arrived in two days. I would most definitely recommend this product and this company! High quality and excellent customer service!

This is the second door purchased (should of taken door when I sold the other home, which cost less than this). These photo's are of a 4 year old install and still working great. Had to take it apart to straighten the lock mechanism. Sixty lb dog running outside to bark at something and smacked the locked doors pretty hard. Can't believe someone gave a 1 star review because their dog chewed the door corners. This is not a chew toy, it is a dog door. I know its costly and had to loosen up a bit before pressing the order button. But if you want a great door for your pups. This is the door to have on your home.

The best dog door ever. This is our second one as we just had one put in our new sunroom as well as the one we already have. Does not blow open, seals great and easy enough for my German Shepard that has hip dysplasia, my 14 year old dog with arthritis and our small miniture pincher. Manufacturer also sent us new weather stripping and springs upon request. We have had it in use for 5 years now and it still looks new. Our dogs barrel through it sometimes and it takes abuse well. Also has easy key lock to keep dogs in when needed without have to worry about storing and retrieving a seperate door plate. They are well worth the money spent on them.

Bought this in the hopes that my dog could not chew it up sense it's supposed to be strog plexiglass and was even told he should be able to chew through it but he chewed it up after 2 weeks of having it.
