Great Scissors and glue stick
I've bought several of the Alex kits and this one is my favorite thus far. Remember, with these Alex kits, you're basically paying for convenience of an already planned and packaged age-appropriate crafting activity. What makes this kit stand out is the scissors and glue stick. Itty bitty kiddos love glue sticks and this one is probably the best toddler glue stick in existence: 1) large and easy to hold 2) purple so you can see where you've applied it, but dries clear so you know when stuff won't stick anymore 3) a great consistency for applying smoothly 4) not messy The scissors are great too. I bought a five dollar pair of Fiskars training scissors at the same time and these are just as good. They don't have a metal edge for cutting, but still cut well, which to me feels safer than when there's a metal edge. Handles are comfy. They're better than the Melissa and Doug first scissors because like the Fiskars, there is room for toddlers whole hand in the handle, unlike when the handles are just two tiny circles. The activities are nice too, and interesting, but long after those are done and gone, kiddos will be able to keep using the fantastic glue stick and scissors. My only warning is to keep an eye out for a good price. I've seen the prices of various Alex kits jump all over the place, and so they can be a rip off if you aren't careful. Anything under ten is probably a good deal on this one. Strongly recommend it!

Fun, engaging & high quality materials
We have purchased a few bath toys from Alex Toys and they were fine for the price and quality. My toddlers did not enjoy them as much as their other bath toys so I stopped buying this brand. Then we later bought their wooden balancing/seesaw and that was very good so I started to come around this brand again. When this set was on sale during xmas, I bought a box thinking we could use it during rainy days or quiet time. Well, the kids love them so much that we're almost done with the whole box! :0) And the biggest bonus is, my 5 yr old likes to sit and show my 2.5 yr old what to do so that i can walk away from an activity and no one is calling my name for help. *awesome!* The materials are high quality, bright in colors and very sturdy. The paper provided is thicker construction paper so my 2.5 yr old can use the provided safety scissors with ease, and he is so happy to be cutting like a big boy. I also bought the Alex Toys Busy Box during the same sale, and we are also having fun with that set. It is a little larger and the activities are more geared towards 'just having fun' instead of trying to "master" the skilss for preschool (lol) but the kids don't know the difference and have been using the 2 sets together.

Learning *IS* fun!
This is truly a "busy-box" that has fun things to do and is Educational. My son is 3.5 and he loves it, so I love it. I'd buy it again. Kindergarten is no longer a fun little class where you begin to learn. (like in my day 50'COUGH'40 yrs ago) Kids now-a-days have to practically have a college education before they'll let you in! I love learning myself, and knowledge *is* the key to success (imho) but wow! and while I'm glad I can still afford to have my son in preschool 2 days a week, we needed something at home, and Ready, Set, School Activity Box is really great! It includes: 1. Washable notebooks including a washable felt marker. 2. A cute little tennis shoe with BIG laces and a fun little chart to teach how to tie a (bow) shoe lace (yes even though most of the world is now velcro) 3. Plastic scissors for children under 5! (hard to find in my area) 4. Stickers, crayons, stencils 5. Writing by tracing letters (abc's), dot-to-dot, shapes, colors, numbers (on above notebooks) This is a great buy, whether you're a busy parent, or aren't crafty enough to make the things in the box.

We loved this! I actually just purchased another!
I was really impressed with this set! I purchased this a couple months ago but saved it for my youngest son for Easter! We actually just got a chance today to open it up, my little guy absolutely loves it! I must say I do too! This comes with a nice amount of little crafts to do, they are each individually wrapped so you can do one craft at a time without mixing them all up! I've never let my youngest son use scissors before today! Me and my oldest son sat with him and did the face craft, they both loved doing it and my youngest actually caught on quick on how to use the scissors! To me the scissors work very well and because they are kid scissors they don't have a huge blade and I feel comfortable with him practicing with these! This set comes with the scissors, stickers, a large glue stick, 8 cutting activities and a practice sheet! The cutting activities have black dotted lines to make it easier for them to cut them out, all they have to do is follow the dotted lines! The colors on the activities are colorful and bright, which caught my little ones eye, he loves bright colors! My oldest son actually liked this set so much that he asked if he could have his own! I literally just purchased another set for him so now both my oldest and youngest can each make their own crafts together! I also rather my oldest have the scissors that came in this set than the different pair i bought him last year! Honestly they don't work as great as these Alex Toys brand scissors, I tried them both out today and these ones have a better feel and cut alot nicer! He's left handed and also said these scissors were more comfortable to hold and use I would definitely buy this set again for my nieces once they are old enough for it or as a gift for someone else! It's a huge hit with both of my boys and it's fun to do!

This kit explained...such fun, great gift!
This was my first experience with Alex brand craft sets; I have to say, I'm impressed and will be looking into buying more. This set is a great price point and includes hours of fun inside, as well as some learning when it comes to using scissors. My children, ages 5 and *almost* 3, had a blast when we opened up their Ready, Set, Cut! boxes that Santa brought. We homeschool, so teaching kids to use scissors falls 100% on me, and I consider this craft set to be both fun and very educational for little ones. There are 8 different cutting crafts packed inside, as well as a practice sheet for cutting techniques (i.e. a circle to cut, a square, wavy lines, etc.) and a bright, colorful picture-instructions sheet that shows how you can make all 8 crafts. Each craft is individually wrapped--making this kit the sort of thing you can spend a whole rainy day on OR spread the projects out over time and do a craft every week or so--with cutting sheets and stickers inside each bag. The kit is very organized, in this way. Of course, also included is a pair of safety scissors and a glue stick. The glue stick is nice and big, the glue goes on bright purple and dries clear rather quickly. The scissors are true safety scissors: there is no metal blade, and they won't cut hair (I tried). The blades are plastic and not even really sharp. They are tightly assembled to help them cut, though I noticed after 2-3 crafts that both of my girls' scissors were dulling and becoming looser. Suddenly they were having a harder time cutting. That said, I LOVED the special little spring attached that pushes the scissors back open after cutting down--what a brilliant idea! My little ones got the concept of cutting much faster because of this design, I think, and it made little hands cutting paper just that much more easy. Since we homeschool and will get a lot of use out of safety scissors, I went looking for a safety scissors with both a metal blade AND the special spring that helps little ones cut. Here on Amazon I found the "Westcott Preschool Training Scissors", so I think I'll be ordering those. Scissors aside, this inexpensive craft kit makes for a fantastic gift and hours of fun. I can't recommend it enough. Even my almost-three-year-old loved it and she was a little young to be learning cutting. I helped her by holding her hands hand cutting with her, I can tell she's catching on. The crafts are all so cute and original--a princess crown, a monster mask, a snake to cut out and decorate--I think this kit is wonderful and I definitely recommend it!

Nice
This is perfect for a preschooler who is interested in using scissors. It helps them better their skills and create fun things. I love that reach project is packed separately. My 4yr. old granddaughter can do this without supervision which she loves.

Very thoughtful activities and images which is appealing to eager young learners.
I got this for my 2 and a half year old even though it was recommend for older age because my daughter likes to cut and this set came with safety scissors. My daughter loved this set! She had a great time cutting paper and trying to cut on dotted lines, we also practiced tying shoe laces. She loved the crayons which she also plays with as though building blocks. Very thought out activities! My daughter said "I had fun today mom, I like my gift". She is much too young to write letters but set also came with an erasable flip booklet of fun images like a lady bug where she connects the dot to complete the image and she loved connecting dots with dry erase marker.

Fun product, but needs better scissors.
I purchased this for my four year old daughter and she was very excited to see the projects that it offered. Not that long ago, she cut her hair with some kid scissors, so me, acting as an angry parent threw out the scissors. I was hoping the scissors that came with the set would be able to replace them as she now realizes what she did was wrong. Well, the scissors are not good at all as they are plastic and can barely cut the paper, which caused some meltdowns and frustrations on her part. I figured they would have some sort of metal on the blades, but nope, none at all. I have since ordered a different pair of kids scissors so that she can continue with the projects without her getting upset. The paper that it comes with is of great quality though and makes really cute projects. I did get the set for under $4 on sale, so it was a great deal. Would I pay the retail price of $11? No. But for the $4, yes, I would buy it again.

Great buy!
Love the scissors. They are recommended by an ergotherapist. Perfect for a child who is learning to use scissors or has ppor fine motor skills. It also came with lots of crafts to make that involve cutting with scissors obviously.

Great for kindergarten prep
Really nice over-all kit for preschool type learning. My older son was in preschool this past year but it was a bit of a wash... for several reasons... so this is going to be my “homeschooling” over the summer with him before kindergarten! The stickers all coincide with specific worksheets, and there are 8 additional non-sticker sheets as well. Nice visual instructions to go with the shoe lace tieing, a good dry erase marker, as well as scissors with the little pushy bit in the middle to make those early cutting skills a bit easier to learn. :) id definitely recommend this kit! Colourful and eye catching, and it looks like lots of fun! The best part... it collapses into a nice small stack for storage purposes.
