2013 release, the third album from one of the UK's most acclaimed up-and-coming groups. The Welsh duo - Sarah Howells and Richard Llewellyn - have been making serious waves around the UK, touring constantly since getting together in 2009. Musically, Sarah and Richard are inspired by the likes of Laura Veirs, Bjork, Jeff Buckley, Gillian Welch, Everything but the Girl and Lucinda Williams. Little Letters is a step away from their previous two albums, with more of a full band feel that nevertheless maintains the duo's talent for catchy, atmospheric, folk-tinged songs. Their compositions are picturesque stories, inspired by their rural upbringing and the emotional extremes of past loves and friendships.

Worthy
I have spent the last few weeks listening to the album, and now that I have a firm opinion of it I feel perplexed as to how the album has only garnered a single review as it nears its second birthday. My only explanation is that the world has been too busy paying attention to other things to take notice of it, because this album is worth far more chatter than it has received.Little letters is one of those blessed, rare albums who's standout tracks are supported by other strong songs, and not just forgettable filler. It is a very consistent offering meaning if you like any of it, you probably will enjoy all of it. Furthermore, it is lyrically deep, and feels emotionally honest in a way few albums do.I don't know enough about the personal histories of the members to claim to understand what the songs are “really about” (if anything at all) but I will say they come off as personal, as if they tell the tale of significant things. Not of pretty things, or ugly ones. Just the muddled, human mess where good gets tangled with bad.In the end I am going to claim something big about the album. I am going to say it is a “perfect” album. That doesn't mean it is my favorite album, or that any sane person with taste should love it as much as I do. What it means is that it is remarkably successful at being what it is trying to be, that it has no major faults when viewed as it is intended to be viewed. To that, if you like metal then it will not make you happy. If you seek rap, then it is not worth your time. Some may find it too slow, or some to plain. But if you find it is your cup of tea then drink, and be warmed and delighted.

Paper Aeroplanes - a hidden gem
Little letters is the brilliant new album from Welsh duo Sarah Howells and Richard Llewellyn. Paper Aeroplanes have been described as one of the best up and coming UK bands in 2013 and it's not too hard to understand why. From the instantly catchy and uptempo "Red Rover", When the Windows Shook" and "Palm of your hand" and the title track "Little Letters" through to the the heartfelt ballands of "Multiple Love", "At the Altar" and the beautiful "Silence the bells","Sleeper Train" and "Fable", it has something for everyone. The feel of the album will remind you of the The Sundays, Cranberries, Corrs, KT Tunstall, Amy McDonald, Florence and the Machine and Fleetwood Mac, but Paper Aeroplanes have a unique sound. With excellent heartfelt song writing from Richard and Sarah and vocals to die for, this is an album that you will love more on every play.Paper Aeroplanes have a fantastic back catalogue, so check out "The day we ran into the sea" and the "We are ghosts" albums as well. The "Time to be EP" is worth buying too.To hear more of their music you can go to the Paper Aeroplanes webite, where you will also be able to view some of their live videos and hear some of their music in full. They are great live, so please go and see them as I did, if they gig near you.Highly RecommendedAlso on a side note, Sarah has worked a lot with Al Lewis (Co-wrote and sang on the also lovely "Battles" album). They have done a great live cover of "Fight for this love". Sarah has also done a brilliant live acoustic cover of "Green Green Grass" as well. Both of the videos are on Youtube or on the Paper Aeroplanes or Al Lewis web-sites. Definately worth a look and it will give you a very good idea why they are both so highly rated.

Just great
I love this band. Having seen them live in Oxford a few months ago I immediately bought this and their other two albums, The Day We Ran Into The Sea, and We Are Ghosts. There are many good young bands and artists around these days, and this band is my favourite amongst them. Great tunes, lovely harmonies and thoughtful lyrics, when at a loose end Paper Aeroplanes is who I switch on.

Criminally underrated.
Another fantastic album from Paper Aeroplanes. Little Letters, Red Rover and Circus are particular favourites of mine, but all of the tracks on the album are very good. It's hard to describe the genre of Paper Aeroplanes because they are so unique. I would describe them as folk-pop, with some tracks having a harder/rockier edge. The lyrics are heartfelt, the melodies catchy. If you get the chance to see them live don't hesitate, they are truly fantastic performers, conveying such a passion in their craft.

Fantastic Music!
I first heard these through a sample from Amazon MP3 and was instantly hooked on their folk music. They are magical and calming and I thoroughly enjoy listening to them - I bought their complete album I liked them so much. Think along the lines of Birdy...Great Must Have!!!

This should be the 'breaker'!
The latest album from Paper Aeroplanes and this should be the one that thrusts them into the limelight! The same beautiful vocals as previously with wonderful lyrics but now with a 'proper band' backing them up. It sounds great. Buy it, you will not be disappointed!

Full of haunting songs and melodies
An excellent album, full of haunting songs and melodies that just keep growing on you. Difficult to choose favourites but the title track and Fable are absolute gems, and Sarah's voice is exquisite throughout.
