You could put 100lb braid if you wanted, you just wouldn't get that much line. Typically if you are using 1000 size, most would use 8-12lb braid. The max drag is around 10lbs... **Q: Does this reel have the long stroke spool ?** A: yes **Q: Is the 3000 good enough for inshore fishing for Reds up to 30 inches?** A: I’m sorry but I would have guided you a couple sizes up. These 3000 must be huge? I’m comparing it to all PENN 3000.
