Well worth the cost. Powerful, well built, and no hoses to deal with!!!
I had a decision to make. Go with battery powered tools or air powered. After watching a neighbor deal with hoses, busted lines, tools maintenance and limited reach I decided to go with Dewalt and build around the 20V MAX system. This impact wrench was purchased to work on family vehicles. I paired this with Tekton impact sockets and extensions (also purchased on Amazon). This thing zips over tightened lug nuts off my F250 and spun corroded bolts off struts like they were toys. Next up are Honda axle nuts. So far very happy with my purchase. One thing to keep in mind - use 5 ah batteries. It doesn't perform as well with smaller battery packs on high power settings. That may be the root cause of comments by other users stating it's not as powerful as they expected. Also, I bought the hogring version. I simply added a thin layer of synthetic grease to the 1/2 " driver and my sockets securely mount with a little muscle but I can also remove them by hand. I'll never understand people who feel the need to smash sockets on by jamming the tool onto a concrete driveway. Overall I'm pleased with Dewalt quality and feel the extra cost was worth it. One thing I'd like to see Dewalt do is offer a dedicated case for this. If you're anything like me you like to keep your tools organized, maintained and clean. I was a little disappointed no case came with this impact wrench, specially this price point (I would have paid extra for it). But I knew it wasn't included from the beginning, so I am not going to detract from the 5 star rating. It's portability is also a plus. I can take this along to a roadside breakdown and use it for very quick tire changes and some jacks offer a 1/2" socket so you can use this impact wrench to rapidly get the car or truck off the ground. That's a nice bonus.

Very Convenient Tool
Well, I've had a chance to use the DEWALT 20V MAX XR Impact Wrench, and I give it a 5 star for the following reasons. I try to purchase quality tools, even though I use them mostly for home needs. So, I don't use them every day, under extreme use. This tool has more than enough power to remove most bolts and nuts. Matter of fact, I wrung a bolt off that was rusted, and I did it on #2 setting. The weight of the tool took me by surprise at first, it is heavy, but putting the battery on it made it feel much better balanced, and you forget about the weight. I did have a little trouble with the trigger forward-reverse switch sliding out of position from time to time, but that could have been my fault. As for the Hog Ring Anvil, this is the first time that I have used one, and I have mixed feelings about it. I can see why people who work with the impact throughout the day, changing sockets of different sizes, would like the hog ring, but, I didn't care much for it. The sockets fit loosely, you deal with extensions falling off, when its not the extension that you are having to change frequently. As a home user, I just didn't have that much problem with Detent Anvils. I've got air impacts that are Detent, and I rarely have problems changing sockets. I did purchase a Milwaukee Shockwave 1/2-Inch Square by 1/4-Inch Hex Adapter for the Dewalt Impact, that was a mistake, absolutely worthless with a Hog Ring Anvil, and not universal to all hex attachments. Don't waste your money on the adapter, purchase the right tool to do what you are working on. Well, that's about all I have to say, it's a good tool for the shop, and I feel good about the quality, though I have seen some reviews that said it wouldn't last for the long haul. Don't take the negative points as a sign of problems, its not, I like the tool. It's very convenient to have an impact tool without a cord or air hose hanging from it.

Love it
I’ve had this about three years now. Love it. Works great. Don’t have anything to compare it to other than air tools. But I did a lot of research back when I bought and it totally gets the job done. Would totally buy it again. Admittedly I’m biased cause I was and am already on their battery platform—but I did seriously consider other brands and ended up with this. It’s been a champ. No regrets. I’m not a pro but I do all my own wrenching on all our family vehicles.

Head to head with IR w7150
For 2 years now i have had a IR w7150 with similar specs and IR 3Ah batteries. Head to head with full batteries in high torque demand situation I would rate this new Dewalt 899 with a Dewalt 5Ah battery ahead of the used IR 7150. This wrench could hook on after the IR gave it its all and drive it little further. (Installing earth augers for fiberglass fence corners) Definitely a keeper. The IR is getting retired and sold after this upgrade. Along with desire to simplify to one common battery platform of the 20v max. Can't wait for the release of dcf 897 3/4in sibling to this wrench. On the farm it's a go to for tough jobs. I use its cousin 20v max 3/8 inch impact wrench for the seemingly half the size and weight for light, repetitive jobs. The IR served me well. It has lots of power. I like trigger handle swept back a little for a more natural hold and access to tighter areas. It stops with trigger release versus the Dewalt spin out a little before stop. BUT IR has a short line of tools on that battery platform and this wrench was the go to wrench 2 years ago for a high torque impact and is now no longer only horse in the rodeo. DeWalt is late to the game, but certainly "done good" with this dcf899 and I would buy it even if all cordless wrenches used the same battery. (Now there's an idea. But I will dream on.)

Must buy - Does NOT disappoint
I was in the market for a impact wrench. I have searched all around to different brands and watched videos on them for performance and what other real people are saying about the different models and names of impact wrenches. I finally decided to buy this one. Boy am I glad I did. There is two different models of this one sold here on Amazon. Hog ring and Detent Pin. I purchased the Hog Ring after researching it and what would work best for me. Hog ring is easier to get off and Detent Pin you need a screw driver or a specific tool. I have not had a problem with any sockets coming off. Pros : Very sturdy and high quality. Feel like your getting a good bang for your buck. The 3 different speed options are a must and a huge plus. The light is in the perfect spot so it lights up exactly where the bolt is not under it. The price is actually pretty good for this model. It really helps if you already have some 20v DeWalt tools. Its compact for how much torque it has Cons: It is a bit heavy. But in reality its fairly light compared to other models. I have actually not even needed the third setting on this yet. I took off a Catalytic converter with bolts rusted on that I could not get with a breaker bar. I got it off in less than 5 seconds on the second setting. I was very impressed. It takes off lug nuts with ease! Im not exactly sure how many foot lbs the seconds setting is but its got to be over 200. I was thinking of buying the 20v 1/2" impact that isn't the high torque version but Im so glad I spent the extra $70 and got this one. If you already have a 20v set up, this impact is a no brainer. If not, I would still buy this because you will not be disappointed. I will update with in 6 months on how it holds up.

AMAZING! Replaced Pneumatic impact!
I no longer have any need for Air impact! This thing has so much power and dont have to drag a hose around and listen to a loud air compressor. The best part is the lower gear tightens to just shy of 100ft/lb so perfect for putting tires on without over tightening. I use this to get the tires on while the car is in the air and tighten them just a little more with torque wrench to make sure they are at the right spec. The battery life on this is amazing. I have never had one project even drop a 2mah batter one bar! I have used it to take off axel nuts and exhaust bolt and it does it with ease. Im still waiting for the day i find a bolt this thing cant take off. Hopefully that day doesnt come! I havent had any issues yet! AMAZING PRODUCT!

Powerful but heavy Impact wrench with plenty of torque
I bought this Impact Wrench to help me remove the lug nuts on vehicles among other applications. I wanted a Dewalt so that I wouldn’t have to buy a different battery system. I received the tool from Amazon a few weeks ago and have been very happy with it. Torque: In terms of torque--there hasn’t been a bolt or nut that this wrench will not turn. I tested it on the hardest lug nuts I could find and it did not have a problem removing any. Attachment system: The hog ring is harder to use than an indent from my perspective. Some sockets are hard to put on and take off. I have installed a short extension which turns this wrench into an indent attachment system--that works well for me. Battery Life: This will depend on how fresh your batteries are; my 3 year old batteries last a long time in this tool. Speeds-Torque settings: This is the area was disappointed in. This tool does not have different torque settings, rather, near the battery; a 3 position switch sets the rotational speed of the tool. I think you get more torque at higher speeds but I’m not sure. Handling: This tool is much heavier than my other Dewalt drills and drivers. It is not as compact and maneuverable making it not "the go to tool" for removing stuck nuts and bolts. I am happy to have it for heavy duty applications. One caution though, with the powerful torque this tool produces, you can strip threads easily. You have been warned.
