I bought this for our 5 year old grandson. It is pretty small. I think it would be great for a toddler. I figured that our grandson would use this when he goes exploring with his sister and brothers or when they go on day trips to carry snacks and find small treasures. I added small plastic boxes for snacks, pretty rocks, bugs, sticks --- all those neat things that little boys find.

Does it have a solid or soft bottom?

Are there any kid size water bottles on the market that fit the side water bottle pockets without stretching the elastic out?

16 to 23oz bottles with ease. Bigger bottles- even wine on the inside. It's a GREAT little pack. I'm a small framed adult female and I take this pack everywhere.
