I had a Shimano Square tapered bottom bracket so I purchased the BIKEHAND Bicycle Bottom Bracket Removal Tool. This tool is for removing & installing the sealed square tapered bottom brackets like Shimano’s Octalink ( 20 tooth cartridges which are approximately 31mm). The tool can be used w/a 24mm socket wrench (placed over the end of the tool if you do not have a 1/2 inch ratchet), 1/2 inch ratchet or breaker bar, or an adjustable spanner (crescent) wrench. I used a 1/2 inch breaker bar to remove my bottom bracket & the tool worked great. The tool is deep enough to fit over the square tapered spindle & seats evenly & securely within the teeth of the bottom bracket. The tool felt well made & I believe it will last for many years. Review: Did the job - It was immediatly clear that turning it with my 8 inch adjustable wrench wasn't going to work. After 18 years it was really stuck and the bike's on a stand with the wheels off so I couldn't stand it upright and use the ground for leverage nor did I want to break my stand putting those kinds of forces on it. Plus the tool kept slipping out. I didn't have any M8 bolts to lock it on so I ended up laying the bike on it's side, putting a 2 foot breaker bar in the square slot and pulling with my foot on the bottom of the downtube for leverage, which worked well. Having the bike on it's side with the bracket facing up helped keep it from slipping too since the tool was going straight down and I wasn't fighting gravity.
