So far, am very pleased!
We had an old Hayward chlorine generator in the house we purchased, and it never worked right. But I had no idea how old it was or who had been doing what to it. I would get one salt reading from it, a totally different reading from a hand-held digital salt meter, and yet another totally different reading from Leslie's. I had no idea which one to believe, and as a result it was difficult to keep the pool water algae free and looking clear. On the old Hayward, the light to add salt was always on, no matter how much salt you put into it. Finally, it got to the point where it would not generate chlorine and algae was taking over. I said enough was enough and started looking for a replacement. Despite the problems I was having with the Hayward I inherited, I never really considered buying a chlorine generator other than a Hayward. I like the fact that you could return it within 30 days if you bought it through Amazon. Because the new one used the same plumbing as the old one, and even look almost identical to the old one, installation was easy. So far, I have been extremely pleased and my salt water pool looks great. As it turns out, the salt reading on the digital salt meter and the Hayward are very close. I have a 3-year warranty on the Hayward, which is also reassuring. The only negative thus far is the Hayward owner's manual, which just about requires you to be a chemical scientist to understand their discussion of pool water chemistry. But I am not too concerned about that. The bottom line and best gauge of the health of your pool water is how it looks and whether you have any algae problems. If it looks clear and sparkles, and if you have no algae, you have 90% of the problem beat. I may come to a different conclusion later down the line, but the Hayward chlorine generator I bought on Amazon has made a huge difference in the amount of time I spend on the pool, the amount of money I spend on salt, and my general happiness with using the pool.

failed prematurely but Hayward warrantied it no question
Update: I am amending this review because Hayward I suppose saw this and refunded the unit. Imagine my surprise! I already ordered a Pentair unit and regret that decision - had I known sooner, I would have stayed Hayward. Again, thank you for the surprise and delight and standing by your product! There will be other opportunities for me to use Hayward and this means a lot. Lasted 10 months, now throwing a PCB error and a resistor on the PCB is cooked. It had previously worked well. I still had an old one which had a corroded RJ11 jack. Now I am using that on a timer and that one was 10 years old. Disappointed

Hayward will not honor warranty.
Worked fine for 6 months then the salt cell failed. Hayward makes it impossible to do a warranty repair. The system is not producing chlorine and the diagnostics indicate that the cell has failed internally (open circuit). I have verified correct installation, correct cell type (T-9), and proper salinity. I also performed a complete hard reset and inspected the cell connector on the control board. Here are my diagnostic readings: Temperature: 65°F Voltage: 32.8V Amperage: 0.00A Instant Salt: –0 Average Salt: 3000 ppm Cell Type: T-9 Software: r1.59 AquaLogic Setting: AL-0 Desired Output: 50% Independent water testing: Salt level measured at 3650 ppm Troubleshooting performed: Hard reset (breaker off for 5 minutes) Verified correct cell type (T-9) Inspected cell cable and connector – no corrosion or damage Board inspected – no thermistor damage, no burnt components Re-seated connector at board No Flow light is off, flow switch functioning Cell clean and recently maintained Based on the above (33V, 0.00A, and –0 instant salinity), the cell appears to have an internal open circuit, which matches the documented failure mode for a defective salt cell.

New unit. Good to go.
I gave everything high stars but not tech support (even though I did not need it for install) the one star is for lack of help on their customer service line for trouble shooting questions. Hayward support stinks in general. The unit arrived with everything in the packaged, as advertised. I de-installed the old chlorinator unit and all wiring, along with old T cell. As my old unit was 10 years old. The install of new wiring and old cell goes smoothly. I also put in a new flow sensor. I’d say take your time and is very do-able project. It took me about 40 minutes. All green lights. System seems to be working fine. I had to adjust cell unit to a t-9 cell but that is easy on the unit per directions.

Great Chlorinator with 1 flaw.
Now that I have this chlorinator running properly it works great. After the installation, I had a problem where every day when the pump came on the chlorinator would flash "low salt" and "inspect cell" and was not generating salt. After several calls with Hayward support the problem was identified and a work around implemented. I had installed the chlorinator power input to the same source as the pump as per Hayward manual. My pump however, is a Jandy Variflow and the timer is inbuilt. There is 220 volts power on the pump even when it is not running. This means there is 220 volts power on the chlorinator even when the pump is off. It stops generating when no flow is detected and restarts when the pump restarts and creates a flow. The issue is that the memory inside the chlorinator "decays" when there is no flow and the power remains on. When it restarts it needs to be reset to function properly. The workaround was to put an external timer on the chlorinator. It now works great. If you have a pump with an inbuilt timer you need to be aware of this issue

Easy to install if you are replacing an old unit. If not, you will need a pool installer and possibly an electrician to hook it up.
