Crossed Volume 12 (CROSSED TP)
D**K
This is Crossed, so I'll buy it. But aimed quite low this time.
I agree with the 2 star review given on Crossed vol 12 earlier. A disappointment from an author who wrote Crossed: Psychopath, which really shocked me when it first came out with how psycho it actually was. That book showed me that even in a world with horrid rapehappy cannibal monsters, Man could be the worse enemy. There were elements of Vol 12 I liked, but where was the danger? The sense of 'we are f**ked' that is the undertone of the Crossed narrative? There was no Alpha Crossed in Vol 12 who was more cunning or dangerous or crazy. The main character coming after the guy who ruined his family could have been interesting, but it felt sidelined. If the main character had been the type who was fixated on his revenge no matter the cost even if the survivors who were evacuating away from the Crossed suffered because he had to kill his enemy? That would have been interesting. A main character with a cold rage that would not quit who played the loner and was just as dangerous as the Crossed in his way could have been interesting, but this arc was kind of all over the place, and considering this one arc took up the whole book this time, more could have been done.I want to see more done with the Crossed universe. We've seen the Crossed in Western countries. America. England. The Crossed have been in Japan for some of the stories. But I want more. I want to see Crossed in South America. Russia. China. Motherlovin' Africa. God. Crossed in Africa would be amazing. Child soldier Crossed. African Warlord Crossed. An author exploring the history of ethnic strife and genocide in Africa with a juxtaposition on a army of Crossed raining blood and death upon the land and how a group of main characters survive or fail to survive against them would be amazing.I want to see a Crossed story arc in a country that doesn't speak English. Use subtitles.I want. I want to see a Crossed story arc following an Alpha Crossed from start to finish with his or her group of Crossed maniacs as they fight each other. Eat each other. Rape each other. Fight human survivors. Turn human survivors into new Crossed. Hunt survivors. Basically a warped Crossed National Geographic story arc.God. Can you imagine?

Blasphemy: Worse Crossed Volume Yet!!!
I love the Crossed series. I have read all of them and this one is by far the worse. I feel like David Lapham pooped this story out overnight. This is a statement blasphemous, I know. I have read many works by Lapham, but this is not his greatest work (I was actually dumbfounded when my disappointment led me to believe a new author had taken a stab (no pun intended) at the Crossed series. I flipped to the front cover and their was Lapham listed as author. The art depicting the unspeakable acts in Crossed is still beautifully rendered therefore going from one star to two). I found not only the story to be boring, confusing due to jumping around in time without notice, and the "no need to proof read" grammatical errors just made it horrible. If volume 13 does not continue the Crossed stories I have grown to love than I may be calling it quits on a series that I have invested much money and time. If you are a newcomer to crossed, then please do not start with this volume. You will be greatly disappointed.

but this was a great bounce back
This brought the series back on track. Volume 11 had sort of let me down, but this was a great bounce back!

Definitely a Thumbs Up!
David Lapham has been trying for years to write a decent Crossed story and it looks like he may actually have succeeded. This is a single nine issue story that works well, has good drama and pacing, and interesting characters. As always the Crossed are merely a plot device, like bad weather, but they do the trick of moving the action along.Narratively speaking there are some elegant and sophisticated tricks and a complex opening with multiple timelines forcing the reader to pay attention. Sadly these techniques don’t last past the first issue. The art is odd. There is strong colouration but the level of detail appears to vary between panels. It is as if small panels were blown up to single or double page spreads and the effect is a little jarring.Despite reminding me of the film ‘The Limey’ all the way through this was an enjoyable and unpredictable read.Definitely a Thumbs Up!
