To be honest, more times than not, I find buying cheaper parts results in poor quality. I ended up buying two clock movements to replace the dying chime in my 30 year old regulator quartz clock with pendulum and the Westminster Chime (on the hour). The old movement was made in Japan - Takane. I bought the exact Takane replacement along with this model as a fallback. The Takane replacement mechanically was easy to install and functioned like the original regarding timekeeping but the Takane Movement has been reduced to a cheaper sounding chime that chimes 4 times in an hour and strikes for each hour at the top of the hour. I kind of like that feature but the Takane chime sounded like a toy compared to the old chime. I was going to deal with it but decided to give this clock movement a chance. It required more work to fit it as it is basically 3 parts (chime box, speaker, and clock movement). The shaft was a little smaller but with the washer and nut, it covered the shaft hole. The clock arm options were good and the actual metal was covered with protective plastic to keep it from transit marks. The shaft part where the arms connect are plastic so not sure about longevity yet. It keeps perfect time. I hot glued the speaker to the back of the clock in three tacked places so I could easily remove if I wasn’t happy with thing. (See photo) I also soldered the clock movement to the chime box to ensure I have no connection issues down the road but the pictures show it is twisted to connect. The chime box has options for different chimes or no chimes and it has a feature that shuts the chimes off at night while you sleep. If you read the instructions, it’s not that difficult to sync the chimes if you are mechanically inclined. If you are not, ask a friend or pay an installer. The best part is the sound which can be adjusted (see my video). It sounds nearly like there are real chimes behind the clock face. I’m not exaggerating, it sounds way better than I expected. I was not paid to put in this review; I just hope I help someone trying to bring an old friend back to life albeit with better sound :-)

Bought this to replace the mechanical pendulum drive in my mantle clock, This one is great, I bought a cheaper one(similar to this one),but it made the pendulum swing too fast, I purchased this one, and it worked perfectly, it had the pendulum swing, as good as the mechanical pendulum did, I used my original pendulum, from the mechanical works, I had to adapt the arm that connects the pendulum to the battery operated one, easy to do, and it works great

Installing this mechanism was a first for me. The clock is not antique or valuable, but was an anniversary gift from my husband over 40 years ago so means a lot to me. The installation was easy, just follow the instructions. As others have written, the fiddlely part was syncing the chime to the clock mechanism. I followed the instructions through setting the clock to chime 6:00. After that I was lost. After several tries, I decided to set the current time the way I had with the old mechanism. From the front, I manually moved the minute hand clockwise around the face, stopping at 12 each time to allow the chime to run through entire song and hour count. It was 5:04 pm so I stopped for the five count, then moved minute hand so clock read 5:04. I used the Westminster chimes that sounds only on the hour. Sound is better than I expected Time and chimes are accurate so far, and it’s nice to have my old clock working again!

I wanted to revive a wall clock that simply stopped working. I really liked the idea of having one that chimed, so I did some looking around and found this. I read a few reviews on this make, and a few other makes. The prices differed as well. The reviews were mixed on all of them. I chose this one because of the price. I also really liked the idea of having to connect the wires myself as I wasn't sure where I was going to put the box that chimes and thought I would have to put it through the back of the clock, so being able to thread the wires through a small hole was a nice option. I did have to trim down the new hands, very easy to do. And I used my old pendulum because it's longer than the one that came with the kit. The hands also come with a protective clear sheet over the black side, so carefully peel that off before installing. My Youngtown clock parts came with a small card with instructions for putting the new clock together, but not how to set the chime. That was easy enough to figure out. Listen to the 1st time the mechanism chimes, and press once for the # of following hours until you hit the correct time. I set it for the current hour even though it was 1/2 past, then came back at the top of the next hour and pressed the button once to make sure the time and the chime were in sync.. The mech. will not chime when you press the button to pass through the hours of which the hours the mech is programmed NOT to go off. Between 9pm and 6am. So you have to keep count of how many times you press the button. It will start chiming again when you hit 6am.. It really is a very simple process. Easier than I can explain. Just be patient. You'll figure it out. I did wind up attaching the part that chimed to the inside of my clock with double sided tape. It appears to keep good time, and isn't that loud. I used rechargeable batteries in mine. It takes 3 AA's. The only con is that some people may not like the digital sounding - in a tin can- type sound that is the chime. But after hearing it a few times, I appreciate and understand that it is what it is. And that's actually ok with us. It's really not that bad. And for the price, I can't complain!!

While the clock parts do work and have a lovely sound, it doesn't work for fixing my 24" wall mount westminster chime clock. It will give multiple chime options and will either chime on the hour or every quarter hour (which can be a bit much). The regulator pendulum that came with the kit was too small and the one that is original to my clock is apparently too heavy as the motorized components aren't strong enough to swing it. After 24 hours, we realized it didn't keep time. I don't think this was a component problem as much as it was my purchase of too small of a kit for my clock. I messed it up, so I won't be returning it. This review isn't intended to be negative to the seller, just to help buyers know that the size matters and it won't work for this large a clock.

Follow the instructions exactly to set the clock. Couple of problems. It is hard to accurately set the movement after the batteries have been removed. The instructions to sync the chimes and the clock involve a couple of steps. Be sure to put the batteries in at the correct step. You have to go through the whole process after the batteries have been replaced. Be sure to save and follow the instructions. The movement is not very accurate. Mine changes a couple of seconds a day. That adds up over a month. The pendulum bob included with the clock is ridiculously short. I used the old pendulum and it seems to work. Only the bottom half of the pendulum would be seen if the supplied pendulum was used. I might end up replacing with a different unit when the batteries die. Added comments: This is junk. The chimes fell out of sync with the time. The chimes on mine are now two hours out of sync. Also it was supposed to mute the chimes at night. Sometimes it does, sometimes not. At least still keeps time as well as cheap wristwatch.

I purchased this clock movement with trepidation - I didn't want a cheesy sounding chime, but then what are you going to do? There isn't a lot of choice in this department. And when it arrived, the little (cheap-looking) speaker didn't help my concern, either. Moving on, it takes 3 AA batteries to run this clock, one for the movement itself, and two for the chimes. Assembly went quickly and when I first heard the chimes, I was amazed at the sound quality, not to mention the available sound volume. This little speaker sounds a very good version of the Westminster chimes and three other chimes, selectable by a switch. I must say that they must be driving the heck out of the little tiny speaker because it can be heard all over the house when set at full volume. Happily, the chime module has a volume control which is actually needed in a small room. So what's there to building this clock? Just attach the hands which you'll have to select from an included selection of them, then connect the (two) blue wires coming from the chimes unit to those coming from the clock movement. Insert all the batteries, hang the movement so the pendulum can swing, and if necessary set it swinging. That's about it...opps, almost forgot...you'll need to choose which chime melody you want it to sound! I give this unit five stars. It comes complete with an assortment of hands and there isn't anything else to buy except a screw to mount it to your clock case or wall, batteries, and whatever you want to do for the clock face. It is otherwise complete. And it's an easy and fun build and would make a good scout project or one to do with your kids! How can you loose?

I was amazed how simple and cheap it really is but it’s working perfect I just wish it was a little bit stronger to actually move my original pendulum but other than that it fit perfect it seems like it’s working pretty good

I used this to replace an aging clock action. Was easy to install ymmv. Keeps good time, is a bit too loud past 1 on the chime. Measure your clocks action to make sure it fits.

J'ai acheté cet article pour réparer mon horloge. Il fonctionne très bien, le son fait un peu bon marché mais on s'habitue. Le point négatif est le manque d'instruction pour synchroniser le carillon avec l'horloge. Voici comment faire. 1) Reliez les 2 modules ensemble et les fixer à votre horloge. 2) Installez l'aiguille des heures seulement. 3) Tournez le bouton des heures situé à l'arrière jusqu'à vous entendiez un déclic, à ce moment Installez l'aiguille des minutes sur le chiffre 12 et celle des secondes. Ainsi votre horloge sonnera aux heures. Mettre l'horloge à l'heure et peser sur le bouton du carillon autant de fois que nécessaire. Exemple: s'il est 3h20 PM, peser sur le bouton jusqu'à ce que le carillon sonne 3 fois par le suite il sonnera aux heures. Le carillon est muet la nuit entre 9 h du soir et 6 h du matin. Bonne chance.
