Q: how many on are in the set?

The set has three burp cloths. Well worth the price. They are very durable and versatile.

Q: What is the length of these cloths? The photo (elephant pattern) makes it look much longer than the described 10".

Best burp clothes I own. I have a total of 12. In all colors. These burp clothes are perfect in length (22") and thicker than other clothes. Also very soft. Love them!!

Q: What shape are these? I see pictures where they are rounded on both sides and then others where it looks straighter on one side.

They are rounded on both sides. Almost like the shape of a figure eight.

Q: Are they good for fabric painting?

Probably not the best fabric to paint on. Very porous (absorbs baby spit up) so you'd need a lot of paint. They also aren't a smooth surface and have a checkerboard pattern to them unless you stretch them out.
