Gibson replaced the Les Paul that had been in production since 1950 with a new Les Paul model in 1961. The 1961 Les Paul featured a one-piece slim genuine mahogany body and Slim Taper neck, two cutaways resulting in small pointy horns, beveled edges and no more body binding. Les Paul was not enamored with the new guitar, and his name was removed in 1963 renamed "SG" (Solid Guitar). This Gibson Custom Shop SG Standard Reissue is a painstakenly built reproduction of the original, as made famous in the early days by great players like Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Angus Young, Frank Zappa, Jerry Garcia, Pete Townsend, Elliot Easton, Dickey Betts, and in recent years Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes among many other greats.
