ASUS Zenfone 2 2GB/16GB
Good, but short of a well-rounded device.Zenfone 2 2GB, 16GB model.Performance, RAMGood performance, apps run quickly (assuming you don't have too many). Noticed some lagging in Chrome which isn't anything new, along with slow down if the memory left is under 200MBs which it often does (memory leak bug in android). I also noticed apps frequently freezing for an unknown reason. This version of android is very heavy on RAM for whatever reason (similar to windows) and because of all the bloat you're probably only left with about 500mb after boot with the 2gb model. If you have hundreds of app then i would recommend the 4gb versions of this phone otherwise you will notice a slow down of multitasking and the need for apps to keep reopening.StorageAs you can put in an sd card in 16gb was enough for me, Sd card access is limited in android 5 though, this should be fixed in android 6.Display and navigation bar.Big and typical IPS display with good viewing angles, colour ranges etc. Brightness range isnt so good but can be corrected with apps like lux (Although I had no problems, I'm not responsible for any damage this may cause to your device). I noticed the light sensor had a limited range too, and wasn't overly sensitive, this may explain the issues with the lack of range in the brightness. There are no navigation controls on the screen, instead they are at the bottom. You would think they would have lit up when the screen is turned on and you're in a dark room i.e. linked into the light sensor with some ability to adjust both the brightness of the buttons based on the amount of darkness etc. You also obviously cant change them around as I prefer the back button on the right hand side. I have actually got used to knowing where to touch them in the dark but if the phone doesnt respond straight away, sometimes I will unnecessary push them again as I cant see if I've touched them or not. Upside is more screen space. I managed to activate the on-screen navigational bar but didn't like them, so overall it's a good call on ASUS's part to have the capacitative buttons.Screen doesn't always respond to touch, not sure why. This is a two handed device which I actually prefer because it takes the strain off of the hand and wrist. Although it's not in your face, there's no need for them to plaster the words Asus on the front.GPSQuick and accurate and although inconsequential it picks up the odd chinese GPS satellite every now and again.BloatAlthough some apps can be useful the majority of the high number of bloat apps on this can be disabled but not uninstalled. I prefer vanilla android. Asian manufacturers have an annoying inclination to try and redevelop android, always unsuccessfully.ConnectivityFast connectivity of 100+ mbps on both wifi and cellular network if network supports it. WiFi signal sensitivity is no better than a 2013 device, certainly no where near as good as a laptop. Doesnt support Voice over LTE. This may reduce longevity of device for call and texts should they shut down the 2g and 3g systems in the future (data/ internet would still work on 4g and technically you could put voice and texts over this). In the meantime it should work on all 2g, 3g networks and most 4g networks globally. It's also unlocked and will accept all sim cards. It has NFC.SpeakerSpeaker is on the back and acceptable in terms of loudness and range.Volume and Power ButtonsVolume and power buttons are all in odd positions. Double Tapping screen deals with the neccessity to have to use the power button which is placed flushly on top. There are other gestures but none worked on my device. There's no gestures for volume, play, pause or toggling flash light. Although they're flush, I dont like the volume buttons being where they are. If I want to adjust the sound when I'm listening to music, I have to pick the device up. When watching videos I have to prop it forward. When in my pocket or hand I'm thumbling around trying to find them and often rubbing my finger over the camera cover or pressing the wrong one o( I haven't got used to this at all.NotificationThankfuly they have the multi colored notification light which some other manufactures are beginning to phase out.CameraUnprocessed images are acceptable but nothing special. I like the low level light feature for night time shots.ChargerFor all models other than 4gb/64gb the supplied charger is only about 7 watts, you can purchase an 18 watt charger off ebay from 10 dollars at time of writing (thats the highest it will take). Expect 80% charge in about 55 mins with the faster of the two. I have no idea why they didn't include an 18 watt one in all models even if it meant adding an extra 5 to 10 dollars to the retail price. Still don't understand why the charger port is at the bottom as opposed to the top. At least I can rest it on myself while charging and put it on a stand in portrait.Asus will not provide system updates should you decide to root or bootloader unlock your phone.ConclusionSetting aside some design/ hardware and accessory choices along with messing around with the system, this product is still good value for money. To avoid performance bottlenecks, opt for one of the 4gb models and skip the 2gb one if youre a heavy user with tons or apps. Asus should release all variants of its models at the same time too.

Almost Great Phone - Still a Great Value
I've been using the new Zenfone 2 for a few days now and tried to put it through all of its paces as best as possible. Coming from a Oneplus One, I'm obviously a fan of this new and better direct-sale method of buying phones rather than getting stuck in contracts by buying through the carriers. I'm using it on Cricket Wireless (using AT&T's network).Short Review: An outstanding value for a phone that competes with flagship phones, but falls short in a couple areas. For the price you'd be hard to find a better bang for the buck. It's extremely fast and is a good looking phone, but the dim screen and mediocre battery life hold it back.Full review-------------Hardware:With a 5.5" screen and volume buttons underneath the camera lens on the back, the immediate comparison to this phone would be with the LG G3. Unlike the G3, however, the power button on the phone isn't with the volume buttons but is instead on the top edge of the phone, which is actually not a particularly convenient location for it.The phone itself is made of plastic, but has a brushed aluminum texture to it and feels very sturdy and not like a budget friendly phone at all.The phone measures at 6" tall by 3" wide and weighs in a 6 ounces. That makes it both a little bit bigger and heavier than similar 5.5" phones (including the Oneplus One and LG G3) but not overly so. It feels good in your hand overall, though again, the placement of the power button given the size of the phone makes it annoyingly difficult to push if you're trying to use the phone one-handed.Screen:While the newest flagship phones are moving to QHD displays, the Zenfone is using a standard 1080p IPS display. It's a move that keeps battery usage down, but means text may lack the absolute crispness that you'd see on a phone like the Samsung Galaxy S6 or LG G4.The color range and accuracy appear very good on the Zenfone, but the real problem is the brightness. In short, it doesn't get very bright, which isn't a major problem indoors but once you take the phone out into the sunlight, it can be very difficult to see the screen. This, frankly, is one of my major gripes with the phone.Speakers & Call Quality:Call quality with the phone has been good. People haven't reported any issues in hearing me clearly and, while the volume level seems a little lower than on other phones, I haven't had any real issues either. The speakers themselves, however, are pretty terrible. Whether using them for speakerphone, music or watching a video, the sound is extremely tinny and the volume again is very low. Obviously not an issue with headphone or bluetooth, but if you're trying to watch something without, it's not going to be a pleasant experience.Performance:This is where the Zenfone 2 shines. It's one of the first phones to use an Intel Atom chips to power it rather than the Snapdragon or other ARM based CPUs. They combine the Atom with a whopping 4GB of RAM, meaning you're more or less never going to see apps lagging when you leave a whole bunch of them open. In short, it's a massive amount of power under the hood of this phone.Games load quickly and perform very nicely. I played a handful of games, including very recent ones such as Mortal Kombat X, and never noticed any stuttering or performance glitches at all. It handled everything I could throw at it with ease. The fact that it uses an Intel Atom chip rather than an ARM based CPU means there may be some compatibility issues with apps. Instagram, for example, was crashing immediately, though an update to the app appears to have fixed that. I haven't noticed any other problems, but there may be an app here or there that has issues.Camera:Quite good, actually. A lot of inexpensive phones really cheap out on the camera, but the Zenfone performs pretty well. The Asus camera app has a ton of different setting options and a feature rich manual mode which allows you to tweak pretty much whatever you want. The images are mostly good, especially outdoors. Lower light shots suffer from grain, though a low light mode helps reduce that fair effectively. It's not going to be as good as the Galaxy S6 or LG G4, but it's better than a number of other cameraphones out there and much better than the Oneplus One I was coming from.Battery life:Good news and bad news. The good news is that the Zenfone 2 features quick charge, meaning you can get about 50% charge back in only 30 minutes. Asus calls this "Boostmaster" but it appears to be compatible with other quickcharge phones as I tried the charger with my friend's Droid Turbo and it accepted it as a quick charge adapter and vice versa, his charger quick charged the Zenfone. The bad news is that the battery life itself on the phone isn't good. With moderate use, I was finding myself needing to plug in before the end of the day. Asus is apparently working with Intel to figure out some of the battery drain issues which will hopefully result in battery life improvements coming in future updates to the phone. As it stands right now, however, the battery life simply isn't adequate to get you through your day without needing to recharge.Final thoughts:With phones like the Zenfone 2, Oneplus One and the Alcatel Idol 3, manufacturers are showing that you can make a phone with most, if not all, of the features as the flagship phones from the likes of Samsung, HTC and LG, but at half the price (or less).I would not hesitate to recommend the Zenfone 2. It's fast, has a solid camera and does pretty much everything you'd want from it. The compromise you'll be putting up with is a dimly lit screen and poor battery life. If you can live with those, then it's an outstanding option for you.

I guess I can't expect a perfect product for this price
I guess I can't expect a perfect product for this price, but the amount of bloatware that came with this is unreasonable, and the speed that updates to the OS are released is dismal. I also frequently have trouble with my unit when I use two sim cards. Randomly, one or both of the sims will stop being detected by the phone until I reset it. Battery life is not the greatest either, likely because of the bloatware and lack of OS updates. The screen quality, speed and picture quality are all better than I was expecting though and the price was certainly great.

Good bang for your buck.
A really good phone for the price however, I do suggest getting the upgraded model of this since the RAM on my current model doesn't seem to be the most helpful.
