Excellent thriller
Well, I expected a good but not a great Batman story. What I got was a great Batman story and an even greater thriller. Excellent characters, a driving plot, and creepy secret fraternal orders. What's not to love? Cox had made Batman even greater--a feat in and of itself. As much as I enjoyed the Court of Owls run in the comics, this is better.

Great Court of Owls Case
I picked this up because of the Court of Owls. I love that addition to the Bat-mythos; they're credible, believable, and interesting villains which - because they're a collective - can be believably faced / defeated over and over again. It hardly counts as Joker Immunity when multiple Grandmasters or Owls suffer defeat and are made to go away, even if the Court itself puts someone new in power and continues on.That being said, it took me a lot longer to read this book than I thought it would. That's because the first couple chapters are a bit slow and I got distracted with work things, but once I things really got going in this story they rocketed along.Ultimately this was a great case story. There are sci-fi elements - it's the Court with their undead Talons that have been resurrected with electrum and comic book science, so this shouldn't be too surprising - but it is ultimately a mystery. Greg Cox handles the characters well, though I would have liked to see more of Nightwing. All in all, this is a book that I would recommend, and it makes me likely to give the other DC Comics novels a try.

When an owl swoops in for the kill, it is silent. Deadly. It's natural prey...the bat.
The Court of Owls has had their thumb on Gotham for centuries; making selfish choices for Gotham's future behind the scenes, focused on increasing the power, wealth, and reach of the court. Their tool of influence? Terrifying assassins called...talons.This story tracks on two timelines; modern day Gotham and 1918 Gotham. The history lesson is enlightening, but the story behind a servant of the court, Percy Wright, is MUCH more illuminating. Batman finds himself racing against time, but with the fate of Gotham being sealed decades ago, his world-renown detective skills and terrifying physical prowess will be tested. This novel adds great depth to not just Batman's story, but the people of Gotham, and it's dark but beautiful history. There are reasons for saving Gotham and although they may be hard to see sometimes, to Bruce they are clear. Read this book to learn about the deadly Court of Owls and how Batman combats this centuries-old establishment.

Awesome Book
This book was incredible! I could not put it down! Greg Cox is one of my favorite authors. He did a fantastic job describing Batman Nightwing and Batgirl in this book. I highly recommend it. The only thing that would’ve made it better is if green arrow and black canary would’ve shown up to help out. LOL.
