A quality file as a reasonable price.
Ever notice how hard it is to find a decent metal file at your local hardware store or big box home improvement store? They usually carry a few Nicholson files in a rough cutting grade or maybe a few junk Chinese files. The hand-cut Nicholsons (like to #49 and #50 rasps) that used to be all US made are now outsourced to Mexico and beyond. If you don't have a good machine tool supply shop in your area you're out of luck.I was looking for a smooth cut file for sharpening cabinet scrapers, and came across the Pferd brand, which I was unfamiliar with, on Amazon. A search of several metalworking forums suggested that Pferd was a good maker of quality files, and after using this one for a day, I agree. It's precisely made, and very sharp- two qualities missing in just about every cheap import and more than a few name-brand files. Next time I'm shopping for a metal cutting file, I'll look at Pferd pfirst. (Sorry, I couldn't resist)

Works well, arrived with a 2” patch of rust
I bought this file to “finish” the ends of several pieces of 1” hot rolled steel rods. The file made the task easy. I was not happy to find the first 2+” of one side of the file to be rusty, despite having a small desiccant in the sealed plastic bag, but since I have used it, I will keep it.

These files might be considered good quality for modern times but that makes me very sad.
My grandfather used files 70 years and passed them down to my father who used then 50 years and then when they dulled he sharpened the ends and made them into chisels and handed them down to me. I’ve used them now for 30 years. This new file dulled each side of the file sharpening one single knife blade and the 150 year old file edges are still better than this new one. So, I don't consider this to be “good”.

Good for cutting the teeth of a one-man crosscut saw
This file is good for cutting the teeth of a cross cut saw. The width is more than an inch so it should cover cutting both sides of a tooth without wearing out in the center of the file.
