Hot Coals: A User's Guide to Mastering Your Kamado Grill

When you buy a Kamado this is the book you need to start off.
Perfect book for Kamado owners to understand the dynamic of that particular grill and how to best manipulate it. I prefer reading over videos. Concise yet precise, well illustrated a few but very interesting recipesI did not get that Kamado for smashing burgers or grilling simple skewers : a regular BBQ can do that. I got the grill for an elaborated cooking : smoking, low temp cooking, brisket, pizza, bread, roasting high temp etc…This is what’s the book teaches you.I really recommend it.

My go-to book for new Kamado Grill owners
This book doesn't tell you how to make American BBQ. It teaches you how to think about a Kamado grill. It explains why and when to use different techniques and helps new Kamado owners think through cooking just about anything. Whenever someone I know buys a Kamado grill, I send them this book. The recipes are also pretty interesting. Instead of briskets and beer can chickens, its recipes lean into more exotic European dishes and techniques that aren't always bound by FDA recommendations Who knew shrimp only have to cook to 120F?

Perfect Kamado Techniques Book
This book does exactly what it advertises, and does it really really well. It gives you all the knowledge you need to effectively use your kamado. It describes each part of the kamado, what it does and how it is used. It takes you through starting it up, shutting it down, and managing the temperature. It also takes you through the suggested maintenance, and safety tips. And lots more. It even talks a lot about theory of achieving various tastes and different ways you can use the kamado to cook the same meat (or whatever) differently.Oh yes, and it does throw in some meat-and-potatoes sorts of recipes, which honestly is exactly what I wanted as a noob. So kudos to the author. This is one of the best technique books I've read on grilling or bbq, and the fact that it is focused strictly on the kamado makes it a must-have book for new kamado users. And incidentally, I did my first cook this week, and it turned out surprisingly well (lots of room for improvement, but the food is already really good, based mostly on tips and techniques from this book). The complaints about it not having enough recipes is silly imo. That's now what this book is about, it's just a really kick-butt book on techniques.

Really helped us out
We're new to kamado grilling and our steaks kept coming out overcooked even though we were checking the temp with a temperature probe. This book recommends lower temps for different degrees of done-ness and now were getting the results we wanted. I originally got this book from the library and liked it so much I ordered my own copy.

Great Beginner Book
My husband bought a Kamado over a year ago and has used it with mixed results. It wasn't until I bought him this book for Father's Day that he truly understood how to best manage the coals and heat. The book has a great explanation on understanding the ins and outs of the grill and how to use it for the best results. There are some good recipes included, and we're excited to try them all. It's made such a difference!

Best Kamado book I have found to date!
This book is the ONLY one that I have found that gives great USER information about Kamado cooking. It goes through brief history, but includes many good tips on how to use any Kamado cooker. The recipes are also quite good. I purchased 5 books looking for this and finally found what I needed here.

Great reference for any kamado cook
A great book for any body that has a kamado style grill. It goes over the history of the kamado grill and talks about the various brands out there. It explains how they work and does so without only talking about one brand. They do a great job explaining the various models and their accessories. Love how it tells you how to cook on a kamado and what accessories you should have in a way that no matter what brand you bought you know how to disk your grill in for that type of cook. A great resource to have even if you didn’t buy the big green egg.

It's a good read especially if you are interested in the history ...
It's a good read especially if you are interested in the history and development of the kamado from it's beginnings as a simple rock lined pit dug in the ground to the ceramic cookers of today. The book included quite a few recipes which mostly looked great to try. Interestingly, there are quite a few recepes for wild game. I don't have access to exotic meat but for those who do they might be want to consider trying them. I tried substituting meat found in the supermarkets ( lamb, beef, chicken) for some of the meats with good results.

NOT A BBQ BOOK
I bought this book after getting my Kamado grill. NOT A BBQ BOOK! But is good if you want to know what your Kamado can really do outside of smoking or grilling and goes into detail about how the kamado functions. An informative and interetesting read.

Needs more recipes
The most applicable aspect in this book is how to control the vents, along with a theory and history lessons. I would have liked some basic southern BBQ recipes even though the authors note they rather leave that to other experts.
