Hardly anyone has heard these unissued treasures (they were recorded by folklorist Harry Oster in Louisiana and Mississippi in '61 and '62 and hidden away in Oster's widow's house). They reveal a mesmerizing bluesman: guitarist Robert Brown (a.k.a. Smoky Babe), who stirs the soul with Boss Man Blues: Backyard Boogie: Bad Luck and Trouble: Boogie Gal: Arkansas Blues: Chicago Bound, and more! Arhoolie.

Superb Country Blues
Great country Blues.Recorded in Scotlandville,East Baton Rouge LA and Vance MS between 1960 and 1961 by folklore teacher Dr Oster .Fantastic that there are people who were(and still are) prepared to travel south and record unrecorded rural musicians.Smokey was probably too rural for Jay Miller who was recording swamp blues for the Excello label.Harp player Lazy Lester knew Smoky as 'a little street guitar player hanging around the drinking tree on Bradley Street where everybody would come ,drink wine, play guitar ,play harmonica, sing and just have fun'.17 tracks recorded on Oster's tape recorder are of excellent quality.
