These filters are ultrafine which I personally believe would be as efficient on a CPAP machine. Not only does the filter keep the patient from breathing particulate matter but it also keeps the machine from dealing with the as well. You have to be careful because there are less efficient filters you can buy that will fit but they will allow small particles to be inhaled and wear out the CPAP unit more quickly. **Q: what is the hepa merv score?** A: Not sure but I do know it’s a lot better filter than what my insurance company sends me you can see and feel the difference and also see a lot more dust particles on them when I change **Q: Do these filters have a clear plastic over the filter media?** A: There's no clear plastic that I can see. **Q: Can I return these if I dont like them, after opening to inspect the product?** A: I don't think is really necessary to return an item that fits if you do your due diligence research about the item you need. Now be aware that Brand some times makes a difference but generic is most of time the same quality, at least that has been my experience. most of people look for generic medication we always look for the most economical brand and 99% of the time we choose generic. So if your not sure is going to work don't buy it, that's why I make sure that I change the filters every 2 weeks on my machine even if the manufacturer say to change every 4 weeks, every situation is not the same I have more dust in certain areas of my house. But my room seem to collect a whole load of dust especially around where there's electronics. Is your prerogative to return an item, this item is working fine for me. No pun intended.
