Will the gold plating eventually wear off and cause ear irritation?

yes, gold plating will definelty wear off even when taking it off for a shower,but it never caused my daughter any ear irritation, had to request new earring cause it got really tarnished.

Are the earrings hypoallergenic?

Not sure but my daughter has the worst most sensitive skin and shes had these in since 10 months. Shes almost three now. No issues at all. She just lost one in a swimming pool and I reordered another set. They really are the best.
