Really wanted to like.
I really like some of the "tactics" type games like the Advance Wars series, Fire Emblem, etc. I was really hoping for greatness here. For the most part it is. However, the tactics of the battles sometimes gets overshadowed by the ridiculous mini-games you have to endure to activate you special power cards. Overall I like the idea of the cards, combined with the tactical battles, but quickly tired of the mini-games. Eventually the mini-games overshadow the base game and become frantic pecking contests trying to swat a stupid fly or shuffle pucks around, or even just beating on the screen as fast as possible. Idiotic. They get more and more difficult to complete, until they eventually mostly fail. I also did not like putting the wear and tear on my poor DS' screen. As such, I will not be using this game much anymore. Such a shame the stupid mini-games were not optional, and you could actually focus on your strategies. Not every game has to be made for 7 year olds.

Fun and challenging.
Drone Tactics starts off like most badly written games: with a stroyline that is very forgettable. However, don't let the storyline fool you. This is one game you shouldn't underestimate.I was intrigued by the fact that you can use bugs to battle, as opposed to more military based vehicles and aircrafts like in Advance Wars. I figured why not? So, I gave it a try and since then I have been pretty much hooked on the game. It's not like some other of these strategy based games where one of your members dies and you can never get them back. On the contrary, even if they die in battle they will still get EXP!Some battles can be very long depending on your current level but that's when the Badlands comes in. This is the place to train your "drones" so as to get more EXP, weapons, and cards. The badlands levels are quite challenging also and will definitely keep you entertained for hours. As for the sound and graphics, I would say the graphics are quite impressive and the fact that you can actually see your drones battling on the top screen on the DS is also pretty cool. The soundtrack is not too bad either. A lot of the music actually goes quite well with the levels and can be quite enjoyable. All in all Drone Tactics was a pretty good game and I recommend it to anyone who really enjoys strategy based games, since no else will probably enjoy it.

Good First Turn Based Strategy, Still Decent for TBS Veterans
I rented this game when I was in middle school close to a decade ago, bought it from Amazon five years ago, and currently play an emulated version on my laptop from time to time.Pros: The graphics are good for a DS title even today. The game does a good job introducing mechanics to those unfamiliar with turn based strategy (TBS) and doesn't force you through a tutorial if you're not. The different species insect units are both unique and versatile, and the equipment and cards system are great tools for completing levels with completely different requirements. There are loads of different viable play styles for the campaign even on hard difficulty.Cons: The card minigames, while repetitive and slightly annoying on easy/normal mode, on hard mode they are completely impossible except for a screen tapping game in which a rumble motor will be your best friend. If you skip the story, you really aren't missing much. AI for computer allies and enemy "grunt" units are plain dumb.

Excellent strategy game for the DS
Turn based strategy is one of my favorite genres. Advance Wars has been one of my favorites ever since it came across the Pacific. I can't say that Drone Tactics is as good as Advance Wars, but it definitely holds its own when it comes down to raw gameplay.Story: 3/10 Boring, generic, poor dialog. This is not the reason you want this game. To sum it up you are a bug-loving kid with some friends who share your fascination with the tiny creeps. You all get pulled into an alternate world in which bugs talk and can become giant robots. You fight to save their world against other humans that have evil plans for the poor little (or giant if they are in robot form) bugs.Music: 7/10 Adequate enough. Nothing fancy, but it serves it's purpose.Graphics: 9/10 For a DS game these are really nice graphics. There are 3-D animations of the bugs when you attack. Let's just say they look excellent. Otherwise you are looking at 2-D graphics on the battlefield, but they are nice as well.Gameplay: 10/10 This is the key to this game. You get one each of a variety of different drones (e.g. Butterfly, Praying Mantis, Pill Bug) with their own special characteristics. For the pleasure of customization freaks everywhere you can also equip your drones with different weapons that can change power, accuracy, speed, and other stats. You also acquire cards to assemble a deck. You can use each card once per battle (they don't disappear permanently, you just can't use it multiple times per stage) with varying effects such as healing, extra damage, teleporting a nearby ally to another location, and dropping obstacles. The cards add more strategy to an already deep game. When you use a card to increase your damage you play some minigames to see how much extra damage you do. All of this adds up to a game that keeps every battle fresh and interesting. You can also play multiplayer with a friend (not online), but I don't have anybody to test it out with.Overall: 9/10 I can't say this game is perfect due to the mediocre music and story, but the strategic gameplay more than makes up for it. If you like turn based strategy games you will probably enjoy Drone Tactics. And, hey, it's produced by Atlus. That speaks for itself doesn't it?

Great game, crummy story
Its a strategy RPG. I like strategy RPGs a lot. This one has a different twist to it. It is inferior to Final Fantasy Tactics, so if you don't have that, get that first. If you do and don't want another fantasy based strategy RPG, then this is a good game. The story line is fairly lame, but I do like the bug-mechs.

A well made game, fun.
This game is flawed, it's not prefect, the story is cheesy and balance isn't perefect, but it was made with heart, it's fun game and once you figure out the few (very few) confusing bits, it's great fun.Basically, if you looked at this game, saw it was a tactics game and still wanted to play it, you most likely would have fun.
