Well designed, and a useful & refined tool
A great travel camera! The only issues I have are a bit of softness in the lens, typical for zooms in general and long zooms in particular. The second issue is that the body is a bit plasticky, although the fixed part of the lens barrel is metal. The last issue I have is that, for the intended and advertised use, some amount of weather sealing would be nice. I’ve used a Sony RX10 III on a trip to Antarctica. Superb lens, better than this Pany/Leica and weather sealed BUT in cold weather and a bouncing Zodiac, the soft buttons were a major issue. The camera constantly shifted settings due to the tiny and soft — almost impossible not to push — buttons. It was terribly frustrating. I dumped the camera after that trip. This Leica D-Lux 5 will not have that problem. JPEGs are great right out of the camera, if you’re not inclined to shoot raw, and they still have enuf latitude to tweek a bit in post-processing. Also, the menu structure is MUCH superior to Sony’s (at least on the RX10 III). Just for reference, I’m a retired semi-pro (for ~60 yrs) who’s shot product catalogs, wildlife & travel, magazine covers, photojournalism spreads, etc. and I know a good camera when I have one in my hands. When I don’t want to carry a lot of glass and fiddle with switching out lenses constantly, this is the gear I’ll grab, especially if I need a bit of reach. Now, about that weather sealing . . .

Upgrade Not Impossible
What I like about the Leica V-Lux 5 is it has most everything I wanted on a bridge camera. The lens 2.8-4 with 16 X optical Zoom? That's fantastic. What I didn't like about the Leica V-Lux 5 is it's not weather sealed. For the price of $1,250.00, weather sealing is a must. Dampness and duct will restrict great photographs and videos from the V-Lux 5. Please upgrade this camera and your sales will soar.

Clean clear pictures multifunctional.
Easy to use. Multifunctional. Love the video feature. A little bulky I am used to a smaller camera body. Quality of construction for price seems reasonable. Lens is very functional and straight forward. I am satisfied so far.

Like it but lacks adequate instructions and there is no troubleshooting documentation
This is a very nice camera, the picture quality is superb as expected from a Leica lens. I had some technical issues with it the 2nd day I used it and not sure what the problem was. The official Leica Forum members did not know what to do either and I have commented to Leica that there is also no online documentation to support their FOTOS app. Must reinvent the wheel to use the menu system if you are not aware of Leica terminology or are a novice camera user (like me). So this is a "bridging camera" which does need bridging documentation Leica.

GREAT CAMERA EASY TO USE
Takes a little time to get familiarize yourself but It is a great camera for experimenting and learning .. Great in image quality ..Use a better quality and a larger SD card for better results . Highly recommended .

So much for Leica quality
I've always wanted a Leica because, well, it's a Leica. But I've had the V-Lux 5 for three days and I'm underwhelmed. The plastic housing feels cheap and the body is awkward to hold. The "Instructions" manual is all but useless. It tells you how to attach the strap and lens cap and almost nothing else. Unless you already know what all the dials, buttons and abbreviations mean, you're out of luck. And despite multiple tries, I've been unable to get the camera to synch with my iPhone or iPad with the Leica app. I'll keep trying but will probably return it.

Great lens and photo setting for advance amateur photo geek
I love the lens, the setting and the overall performance. The plastic body is so and so especially for a Leica (even if made in China).....

Excelente calidad!!
