Pat Martino: The Early Years

I bought this as a gift for my son and he loves it. He is a jazz major in performance guitar.

This publication is must have reference for any musician who is a Pat Martino fan. Steve isolates the "Martinoisms" and breaks the solos down well beyond the usual "Minorising" generic approach

The author Steve Kahn has taken a lot of trouble transcribing Pat Martino's early years solos but I was extremely disappointed to find that on each of the pieces the Heads or 'tunes' have been omitted. Whether it was copyright reasons I don't know but I think it very poor that this was not main clear on the cover. Inside there are are copious notes about how wonderful Steve Kahn is but no mention of the incompleteness of the publication. However the publishers dress it up, the book is not what its expected to be and I would stay clear of it unless you want to copy note for note Pat Martino's solos. I have many other similar editions and they all include the heads. This one is a con in many ways.
