I pulled out the Dr. Scholl’s inserts in the first pair I used the device in - the inserts were filthy, disintegrating, and smelled like crap. It is NOT fickle - just read the instructions for chrissakes. The lights blink a bit as the device boots up and verifies the 2 safety checks - the button on the back heel is depressed (if the device has been inserted upside-down, or isn’t level) and the room light is not hitting the device (which means that the UV light from the device is not escaping into the room - it can damage your eyes if u stare at it.). The instructions said to switch the bulbs, so did and it worked for 10 seconds before it started beeping again. For nearly $200 it should not be defective. Avoid and save your money. It does not take long and you can do multiple shoes on a Saturday morning, or when you take them off for the night.
