It's small enough that it doesn't scare my little girl, and it is precise enough to comb through the hair and get all the goop out. The brush won't really work unless the gunk is wet and easy to brush through. Sometimes my dog has dry and hard clumps that can only go away with time. The brush is VERY sharp. Make sure your pup stays still so you don't poke an eye out. Since it was very sharp, I lightly brushed through the tear stains but stopped if I felt any tugging. I also bought eyedrops and a cleanser to help with the issue, since the metal brush won't do much on its own.The handle is chopstick's size, and I lost it about a day into having it (I blame my cats for thinking it's a toy). I'm sure it'll turn up, eventually. I ended up using a fresh mascara/brow spoolie brush as a replacement.
