I have been making jewelry and metal smithing for a number years now- I have been earnestly investing in tools, but don't want to over-spend when the skill set is just basic- like it is with stone setting. I am solid with bezels- ok with tubes, but desperately want to do more... I purchased this little guy because I need something to stick a ring on which will render it immobile while I set stones (this particular tool sits in a vice, fyi)... Of course when I opened it up there were no instructions, and I felt pretty stupid. I spent a few minutes trying to fit things on other things and definitely had it wrong...A quick dig into YouTube though and it became apparent that this little cheapie is going to be PERFECT and FUNCTIONAL to use as intended. It appears to be nearly identical to name brand which is super high end and costs a few times as much. I can't lie, am So excited....

this looks similar to the GRS id ring tool except for the fact that the piece holding it all together is plastic and doesn’t stay still so there is no way for the piece to lock in place.

This is great in that it further reinforces my belief that i need to have my own mill. Otherwise it is perhaps the most cheaply made purchase that amazon has sent me.For $18 it is not a good purchase... price should be $4.There are zero instuction for assembly or usage which some people might have a problem with.The bushings are a hard plastic and not rubber which could/will mar soft metals... You'll want to wrap a soft material between your ring & the bushings.It's roughly 40 cents of materials total. Some pieces are not completely manufactured and/or manufactured poorly. To have a good tool you would basically need to replace nearly every component with higher quality materials.

The product offers a great relation cost-benefit. It works nicely and his price is very accessible

go find the grs guide on youtube, it functions similar. Dont break your stuff.
