I decided to dye my natural blonde hair black. I absolutely adore it. I made sure to add a filler color of a red brown before I dyed black, because I wasn't sure if this dye had any blue undertones. It takes wonderfully to my hair with the brown color fill and looks very natural for being such a nice black. My hair grows fairly fast so I have to touch up my roots every 3 weeks or so. I usually touch up the ends as well out of habit, but they really don't need the help. The color lasts wonderfully and fades to a natural looking brown/black when it does. It is definitely a neutral black, no heavy blue or purple undertones. My local store never carries my shade so I keep coming back to amazon to order more.

I'm 28 years old and have been dying my hair all colors since I was 15. Black has always been default , I've done many blacks from boxed to beauty shop dyes, and this is it , this is the best black I have ever tried . I am telling you this because after one week of being scared and using very mild shampoo and cleansing conditioners to not loose color my scalp could not take it anymore and I was forced to use my clinical strength head and shoulder( I get crazy flare ups around front crown ) I really thought I was going to dry my hair and have faded looking reddish tones popping up on my hair like I always have before and I was wrong. To my surprise my hair still has the perfect amount of blue tones and no ugly reds and it's really shiny , I am in love. If you really want to keep those beautiful blue tones look into buying those blue shampoos that blondes like to use to tone their hair , it helps!

So, on the one hand, there was a distinct blueish tint to the 1.0 Ultimate Black color that I wasn't looking for - I just wanted a really dark, true black color. On the other hand, this is the longest lasting dye I've ever tried. Period. Like, I have oily hair and so the shampoo I use also tends to strip dye from my hair and so it doesn't last long. But this dye, while it did quickly fade to a very dark brown-almost black, nearly a year later and it's still the same color. Even now, the ends of my hair are still the same near-black.

My hair is relatively long and has been black for a couple of years now. I've been to the stylist, bought professional products and box dyes. Each time 2x the product is necessary to cover my hair. Its to the middle of my back. After researching best box dyes I came across this. I bought two. I made both of them up and applied one to find out that's all I needed. WOW!!! The product goes a long way, further than any other boxes I've purchased in the past. Now, my hair isn't super thick but its not thin by any means. Take that for what you will. Its a beautiful shiny black. I may update this review if it truly fades quickly but after reading reviews and watching Youtube reviews, I don't suspect that happening.

I bought this after seeing the good reviews, but I am so blown away by it. I am naturally blonde, but a few months ago got my hair dyed brown at a salon. I didn't want to keep paying the salon price, and I wanted to go to black. I tried other brands but none of them got my hair even remotely black. I'm not very good at doing my own hair, and though I made a mess while using this I was blown away by how good it is. I dyed my hair with this about 5 weeks ago, and it is still midnight black. It has not faded in the summer sun and has not washed out. I will continue to purchase this because it is the best black hair dye I've ever used.
