Sub 4:00: Alan Webb and the Quest for the Fastest Mile

Sub 4 Alan Webb
I found the book very interesting and factual of how good prospective high school athletes can be ground up like chopped beef. The USA top division I coaches have a bad repretation for running and competing the good prospective Olympic athlete in the ground from European coaches. The book was exciting when the races were described and very dissappointing when the results of the biggest and last races of the year were not there because there were thirty-three pages missing in the book and of course at the dmost interesting part. Very dissappointing. WMW

The high and lows of high school stardom
Such an intriguing look into Webb's early career and the Michigan team. Highly recommend for coaches and athletes to learn from the experiences of those involved. Leer does a great job of encapsulating the associated emotions of elite running and training.

If a runner you will like
I enjoyed this book a lot. I don't think the casual jogger will enjoy it but if you competed in track at all in your life then you should enjoy this book. The book goes by kind of fast but still enjoyable.

Worthwhile read
Very well written account of a great American runner. The struggles and the triumphs are outlined well. It is a fast read. I couldn't put it down.

Not great. Middle of the road.
Most people have only so much time and money to devote to pleasure reading. So, in that light, I would not recommend this book. It's not terrible, by any means, but I think your time and money would be better spend on another book. I would, however, recommend his other book, Running with the Buffaloes.

Just OK even for a track nerd
I like the topic, but it's not a very compelling story. Not Chris' best work, but I don't think he had a lot to go on.

Great book
Being a runner or not this is a great running book about a young athlete's successes and struggles following a successful high school career and now having to compete at a higher level at the US college level.

... with the baffalo's is by far and large the best running book I've read to date
Running with the baffalo's is by far and large the best running book I've read to date. Sub 4:00 contains the same style of writing, following the drama and closely the training program. I have become a huge fan of Alan Webb from reading this, and even a bigger fan of track and field.
