Is the handle closed off from the tank part( welded so water can not enter the handle) or can the water from the tank flow through the handle?

The handle is closed off from the tank.

Can it be used for adding water to coffee maker

Sure, but it would be slower than using a wider-mouthed option and likely awkward considering the length of the spout.

Where was this item made?

Since it doesn't give any indication on the item of the place of manufacture, I'm guessing Indiana.

some reviews say this doesn't actually hold 53 oz- if you purchased, have you measured how much it holds? or have a photo to add to your review?

I have measured it with a marked container. There is no way that it will hold 53 oz. of anything.
