Asus makes quality products
Asus products are always high quality and work well and this DVD drive follows the same high standards. The last time I needed an Asus DVD drive, it was not available which is disappointing.

The quality I've come to expect in Asus peripherals
I've bought a lot of Asus peripherals over the years, and this one lives up my high standards for their devices. It has yet to fail on either reading or writing DVDs, and the direct SATA interface is a helluva lot faster than the USB2 external drive I'd been using before. Having one less external box, cable, and DC power supply to muck with is a win. These will likely make it a money saver well into the future, as I don't have to depend on cables, plugs, and DC PSUs - just the unit itself. Recommended. (Thickness? They want it rated on thickness? OK . . . it filled the 5.25" bay correctly, no gaps or overly tight fits.)

Played the day away!
Once I connected it to the tower the unit booted on demand and worked at reading writing and played videos until I shut it down.

Good value for a good device
I am ordinarily reluctant to purchase anything from an "OEM Bulk" dealer, even when a name-brand product because I and friends have encountered some disreputable outfits (example: selling video cards as new when they were cryptominer cast-offs). However, the reviews for this particular drive were so positive I decided to gamble. Installation was straight forward and as expected. It is a real ASUS 24F1ST and performs every task I've put to it with speed and accuracy. I'm getting such confidence in it that I'm considering using it for archiving, something that I've wanted to do in the past. Solid build with no unusual sound levels. It has read all media I've dropped into it without difficulty. I have not used any of the for-fee software available, so I can't comment on whether any compatibility issues arose with them but so far my free stuff has worked without a hiccup. I know many users believe the day of CD/DVD is passed - after all, the internet never crashes, servers are always available, and you never need to reinstall a program in the middle of a business crisis.

Does the job, as long as it approves of it.
Whyyyyy don't they ever package the cables you need WITH these drives? I totally forgot to check if they're included, and was a bit disappointed when the drive came. Instead of ADDING another burner, I ended up replacing my old one with this. When I get around to eventually ordering more things on Amazon, I'll try to remember to get cables. They're too small and cheap to warrant their own shipment/order. SOME drives I see on here do include the $2 cables. Just not this one. The drive itself works good, is quiet etc. I can say it does NOT let DVDShrink run as well as a few other LEGAL copy software. It seems to block this function. I found a way to circumvent this issue, but...again, I shouldn't HAVE to. It's not Asus's job to police what software I run. I own my movie, I can make a back-up. I can't even back up my home movies with this drive. So once I get those pesky add'l cables, I'll have two DVD burners, one that allows access to all software. I've already left a separate review for shipping, but I'll mention it again: this item comes packaged only in a plastic bag that is not sealed. It was sent in my case, with aquarium filters, that leaked charcoal particles all over the inside of shipping box. I found that very unacceptable on Amazon's part. Combined shipping is great, but not when you damage items to save money.

OEM Replacement drive
Pretty straight forward OEM replacement 5.25 DVD-RW drive. I had a Lite-On from 2019 that just stopped working, needed a replacement to archive data from DVD-Rs. Plug and Play, gave me an excuse to clean all the dust out of my PC.

Good drive.
Good drive. I replace my desktop stand--alone drives when the old drive dies. Remove the old drive and install the new one. I had a drive die recently and I'm currently using this drive in the old drive case.

Works Great Every Time.
I use only Asus motherboards for DIY PC tower so I figured I would just stick to the name for my DVD drive. Been working just fine since the install. No special driver required -- Windows had it all figured out.
