One of the world’s most beloved stories about children (not necessarily a “children’s story”), The Secret Garden, is illuminated in this charming, and well-made, accordian-style picture book, The Secret Garden Unfolded. The story is condensed to 14 panels of 39 x 9 inch cardstock poster, folded in accordion (or concertina) fashion, and enclosed in a thin and lovely case. It can be read as a book, unfolded to see the arc of the story and its characters, or displayed as a charming decoration. Each panel has a striking, full-color, pen and gouache painting, with a signature quotation from the scene, and explanation below. I found the text, however brief, descriptive, and moving, especially when echoed with such lovely illustrations, as Mary, Colin — and Mr. Craven — learn about the death and rebirth of nature’s flowering, in youth reborn. Lovely!

These are a great way to introduce new readers to the classics, and for old readers to re-live their favorite quotes and scenes in a beautiful new format.

Very Beautiful illustration for such an amazing story. My only complain is I wished the garden and the flowers were shown more elaborately. In the picture it looks more like a forest.
