Greatest Cat Toy I've Ever Played With!
Let me just say, this cat toy is very fun to play with. I've had 2 of these now for 2 months (I'll explain below), and can't believe at how much I still like playing with it! It allows you to play with extremely ferocious felines at a safe distance from claws, and you can practice getting the little mouse at the end into bowels or other objects for fun while your cat/kitten runs after it. Background: My girlfriend and I have 2 kittens (10 months now). They are the cutest thing ever when they're not really energetic, but currently that's only about 5% of the time. 95% of the time they are sprinting around, fighting each other, and causing havoc around town. We tried dozens of cat toys, but the main problem was none of them were long enough to escape the ferocious, backflip-jumping of our cats who love having their claws out when jumping near your leg/face/sensitive regions. We'd only stop playing with them once we couldn't stand the pain of claws jabbing into our skin, leaving our kittens begging for more. Why this thing is so Awesome: This fishing pole toy solved the problems of our cats jumping and hurting us. Now we can tire our kittens out without getting scratched! We also don't have to work as hard and tire ourselves out because we can just sit down and just flick our wrists, and watch our kittens sprint after the mouse at the end until they start panting. Makes our Kittens Tired: This is the easiest way for our kittens tired and satisfied with their lives. All other toys would tire us out before our kittens would show any sort of fatigue. This also really helps prevent them from fighting too much. Cons/Problems with Toy: When I first got this, I was about to give this a 2/3 star review. This thing is like a real fishing pole in the fact that it doesn't cast! The issue seems to be that the string, because it's stretchy, can't actually cast like a real fishing pole, and also the mouse isn't heavy enough. I was pretty pissed when I learned this and was about to take it back. I also broke this fishing pole's reel, and my first one doesn't click anymore (I was trying to get it to cast...). However, on their product page, they actually say that if you break the reel like how I did (By turning the buttons on the reel) just return it for a new one (Which is really awesome that they advertise that). So when you get yours, Don't Turn The Buttons On The Reel! They are set to the right point. Because of the second point, I bought a new one and was about to take the first one back. Why I didn't take the First One Back: I really like the clicking on the fishing reel, but it can be annoying when my girlfriend is trying to sleep. So I just kept both of the fishing poles and switch off using them. Another Problem: The tip of the reel broke on my first one, but this actual has made it better because it makes it easier to simulate casting with the fishing pole (It's made the string go out easier). Conclusion: If you have a Cat or Kitten who has too much energy, Get This! It's one of the best investments I've made with my Kittens, especially because it makes it fun to play with them!

My cats LOVE this thing
UPDATE: I've had mine for 9 months now and have gone through several of the attachable mice on the end of the rod. The vast vast majority of those mice screws have held up very well (the mice work until my cats literally chew them to pieces). Even 9 months later, they both still absolutely love the rod. It's easily their favorite toy and the best ROI I've gotten on a toy purchase for them. I would seriously highly recommend it to anyone w/ cats. _________________________________________________________________________ Original (unedited) review right after purchasing: Okay, Initial reactions on this after playing with it for ~30 minutes: 1) First, the positives: My cats LOVE this thing. I don't think I've ever had such a big reaction to a toy. The felt mouse on the end is good, and the fact that you can let the rod "give" line so they can run it across the apartment into other rooms is HUGE. Way better than the usual little wands you see. 2) The leader at the end of the fishing line is well-secured. The mouse is attached to the leader with a small screw (going into mouse) with an eye-hole on the end (which loops through the leader). This screw took my cats ~10 minutes to rip out with a normal amount of pressure applied to my end of the rod. Was a ~13lb, athletic cat, so he can definitely pull with good force, but I would also say that having a small screw drilled horizontally (in the same direction cat will pull) seems like the obvious weak-point of this contraption. 3) I would love the option to buy this with a stronger weight line. After tearing the mouse free the first time by pulling out the screw, my cat figured out the mouse COULD be freed from the line. All it took the second time was holding the mouse down briefly with his paw and a swift gnaw on the line to sever it and free Mr mouse again. The line is NOT easy to re-tie in the event your cat does this and the leader is severed from the rod. I don't really blame the manufacturers for this defect and I'm sure for many cats the line is fine (it is more than strong enough for play, it is just that it can be chewed through easily). I'm guessing for most people, this is the appropriate selection of line, my only comment here would be for the ~1/10 reviewers who have said their cats chew through it, it'd be great to have an option to buy the setup with 60lb test :) So anyways, all-in-all, I'm a little conflicted on my rating. On one hand, my cats give it an easy 5 stars - no question. On the other hand, It was $40 and broke within 10 minutes. I would probably still have gone 4 stars except in the description it says it is "guaranteed to last for years with normal use" which based on my experience seems pretty implausible.

Super cool BUT...
I LOVED this thing but it's already broken not even a month in. The winding part got jammed and the plastic locking mechanism broke off. I'd rather buy an American made pole and get a few American made cat toys. Nothing but the best for my cats!

Best cat ‘wand’ ever! Durable, repairable, and stimulating attachment options
High quality realistic fishing pole style cat wand. My kitty loves it and I bought this for her in 2017. The only cat wand I’ve actually kept and didn’t donate to animal shelter. It’s length is ergonomic and comfortable for the handler and it’s repairable and able to accommodate many different attachments. My kitty is 10-12 years old and has always been more of a stealth style predator opposed to waving a wand around in the air and performing acrobatics. She prefers to stalk and then go in for the kill at which time she will lunge and jump into air attempting to catch her prey! I’ve ordered extra attachments from same manufacturer as fishing pole and also some natural real fur and/or feather with similar clip attachment mechanism because at some point after purchasing she seemed disinterested and bored with it and I wasn’t sure why. But I decided to change the attachment prey and that did the trick as it became a completely new ‘toy’ for her! It’s well worth the money spent and I’ve wasted far more than the cost of this item on numerous other cat toys that I ultimately donated if they didn’t break to an irreparable condition. P.S. My kitty is 10 lbs and half of that is fur lol and she was also inhumanely amputated with her front claws being surgically cut off at the bone and joint from where her ‘nails’ would grow by a previous owner. But she still is able to play and enjoy this toy ‘wand’ immensely :)

Sturdy, fun cat toy, but mouse on hook not durable.
Loved this cat fishing pole in the beginning. Pole was sturdy. Was a holiday gift to family, but uunfortunately the mouse/hook fell apart within 2 weeks. Normal cat play, not excessive, but the screw came out of the mouse, & the mouse was shredded within 13 days of opening. Pricey toy to have it's parts fall apart so quickly. Product should package extra toy mice incluing their screw mounts so when they fall apart they may easly be replaced. $40, didn't last by 13 days. Very disapointed. Hoping the company will send replacement parts to remedy the problem.

Mixed results but great custmer service
First one* was lost when present cats were tiny kittens, so a second one was purchased. The rod splintered and broke within 3 play sessions--and I was super careful to keep it away from my destructive duo between play sessions, so no one chewed on the rod. Not what I expected! Seller gave me an immediate refund after I let them know about the problem. Hope it was an accident in delivery or something like that. I'll try again.... "Cat loves it. I was expecting a spinning reel that released on the throw, but my cat was delighted with how this one works so we're happy campers nonetheless. Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability but seems well made and sturdy enough."

Cat loves playability, I love durability !
Kitties love it! Be a mouse or a bird. I love it as we have played every day mostly twice a day since I bought it a few weeks ago. I’ve had many cats through the years and many many toys, this one will last, finally money well spent. My cat actually walks around meowing looking for the mouse after I’ve stopped playing after 45 minutes, oh did I say this cat is 11 years old! I’m so happy this toy has awakened his inner kitten! READ THE DIRECTIONS: you really don’t cast the line which is great cuz I see problems with that... you pull the line from closest to the reel not the end of pole to the desired length, short for bird flying longer for hide and chase play. Then you can reel in during play or to put away. The line and pole is very flexible, if kitty catches it he can carry it off while the line is still connected.. you can reel it back in and play again. NO PLASTIC PARTS ALL METAL and the grip is actually very comfortable foam like a real pole. Now my husband actually likes to play too. My kitty is a Happy Kitty and we are having fun too especially during this pandemic.

Really big hit with my puppy and persian!
I bought this because my puppy loves to run and I read these could be good to give them something to chase. (you forget how much energy puppies have until you get one - ha!) I also have 2 cats so I thought they might get some fun out of it too. I was put off by the price at first - comparatively speaking there are MUCH cheaper options out there. But after doing my homework I came to the conclusion that they're not made like this. For all intensive purposes - this is a real fishing rod and reel. The reel makes that ticking ratcheting sound when you wind it back up. And this thing is sturdy. Not the kind of thing you're going to fold in half and stick in a drawer or have the plastic pole break when they pull too hard. It's long too - this will show up at your door in a box as tall as you are and be stored propped up in a corner of the closet - only because if you leave it out, they'll keep trying to catch the toy! The fishing line has a little stretch/spring to it. I've seen reviews where people had a cat chew through it - so far no chew thru for me. But I do pull it right back once they catch it. Even so, if they did there's plenty of line in the reel to just tie it onto the toy again. And I believe they sell refills if you have the need. My puppy and my persian go NUTS for this thing. (the other cat is a watcher not a chaser) I have to be the one to call an end to playtime and demand they drink some water because neither one of them will stop. They'll both be standing there at full attention with one foot on go - tongues hanging out panting from running - ready to chase it again. They race and tumble over each other trying to be the one to get it first - they LOOOOVE this thing! Come running when I show them what I've got without fail. Got a cat that won't come out from under the bed? Offer them treaties but they recognize it as a trap? Well just drag this across the floor and they come FLYING out with legs scrambling in all direction trying to get traction. She goes from Nope...trap... trap... trap... OMG GET IT!!! It's hysterical. And I've spent far more on toys, climbers, condos, trees, etc. that were treated with great suspicion and wouldn't go near. This one is a winner and should hold up through as much playtime as they want.
