STALE | Yupik : Consistent Inconsistency
I've purchased many Yupik products via Amazon (seeds, nuts, dried berries, dried fruit, etc.), and when it's good, it's great; when it's bad, it's terrible / inedible. There is no consistency at all (and no quality control). It's a crap shoot. And since most Yupik products cost over $25 (sometimes more than $50), I have officially given up on Yupik. This 2.2 lb / 1 kg bag of Macadamia nuts is the latter: Inedible. The entire bag consists of stale nuts. These Macadamias cannot be used in recipes or consumed as is, as they are 100% rancid, exhibiting a bitter, unpleasant, and rancid taste, with an off-putting odor and blotchy coloration indicative of mold or microbial infection (aka aflatoxin). FYI : Aflatoxin contamination can occur during storage, as a humid or heated environment can increase moisture levels and promote fungal growth. I've purchased Macadamia nuts from other companies, such as Oh!Nuts, Nuts.com, and Moana Loa. Every once in a while, I run across a couple of stale nuts intermixed with the 'good'/ fresh/ un-stale nuts. Landing on an occasional bad nut may happen —no big deal. But when the entire bag consists of old, stale, and gross nuts, I will complain. I don't care about Amazon's policy of not accepting returns on food items because I refuse to let $26.99 go to waste. Unfortunately, this translates into 45-minute conversations with several Amazon support agents, requesting an exception to their policy and obtaining authorization for a return (which is why buying Yupik products is not worth it). The consistent inconsistency with Yupik's dried fruits, berries, nuts, and seeds poses a health hazard and a significant financial loss. I've wasted way too much money on Yupik products that were inedible—dried berries and raisins that were crystallized entirely (this only happens when dried fruits are improperly stored at high temperatures). Bags of Coconut chips arrived smashed into coconut dust. Dried figs that were blackened with age and hardened like rocks, etc. On other occasions, mold / mildew is present on the surface of dried berries or fruit, indicating poor storage conditions and a lack of quality control.

Macadamia nut pieces - great buy!
I got a good batch. I was able to eat right out of the package. Advertised as pieces, but most were 1/2 of whole nut. I put some in the air fryer and they roasted very nicely. I would buy again! Satisfied the taste for macadamia nuts at a fraction of the cost. Picture was taken after roasting the nuts.

I had to toast the nuts 3 times before edible. This is not the norm here. Usually excellent.
The size and presentation of the Macadamia nuts art terrific…but the taste is hampered by a slightly rancid smell and taste. I checked the expiration date—it is July2025. Made me wonder why here in March-April they can smell and taste like the oil content has gone bad 3-4 months too soon.. perhaps improper storage in the warehouse? I didn’t send them back because I needed Macadamia nuts for my recipe that very day. A thing I learned while cooking for people is that some oily foods can be refreshed if they are slightly stale—so l refreshed/toasted them in the oven before using. You can refresh corn chips and tortillas that way as well. I Keep Macadamias in the refrigerator to prevent staleness.

Fresh
These are a great price for the amount. They're really fresh, and packaged well. I like that they're in smaller pieces, but not crushed up.

Delicious
These taste great and are a good value for the money. These are raw, no oils used. Healthy and perfect for those on keto. Will continue to purchase.
