Firstly, I have say that I have two Fantastic Fans in our trailer - one in the bedroom and the second over the kitchen. I use them constantly throughout the summer. I have had this 29ft camper for 11 years now and I can honestly say that I can count on two hands the number of times I actually used the AC in preference to the fans. Doors and windows have to be shut for the AC to work. It is so loud inside the camper that you cannot carryon a conversation or listen to the radio or TV. We don’t travel where it constantly gets over 35C. Nor do we suffer high humidity. AC is not of much value either when you cannot plug in. So when it came time to do my last semi-annual check of the AC, it failed. Replacement quote was $1096CND plus installation. After a little soul searching, I could not justify laying out that much cash for what amounts to a roof ornament. So with he help of a friend, we hoisted the broken AC off the roof and I installed the Maxxfan 7000 with remote. Chose this model over a comparable Fantastic Fan for the integrated vent cover and the overall good online reviews. They are rather pricy but the build quality looks excellent. Amazon had the best price but be careful, it can increase over $100 when stock gets low. The remote was required due to the ceiling height. Installation instructions are clear. A finicky fan… yeah, but worth every penny. I bought two of these and installed them on the roof of a box truck (a van front with a box rear end) I use the pair to circulate the air inside my van. They do NOT force a huge gust of wind in the van but they will exchange the air enough to help evacuate odors, or excess heat. My box (on the van) is 10’ long by 80” wide. After build out the inside was considerably smaller (insulation… a must) they are about 4 1/2’ apart and do a decent job but I never get the “strong wind” from them as I was told to expect. One is directly over my bed and I’m one of those people who MUST have moving air running across me or I can’t sleep. The fan just doesn’t ‘push’ a lot of air at once, even on high- but it’s not for a lack of trying The remote is a nice feature and even though I can sit in the center of my box and reach up to change settings, there is something amusing and innately American about pressing a remote button to make stuff happen!! The rain protection is usually a feature I love. Since I have slide windows, rain means being closed up. Having the fans to keep a continuous flow of fresh air in and stale air out means comfort and it does this admirably. I did find out that rain proof is a misnomer. When the freaky northern monsoon rains hit, the rain was going side ways enough to get under the lip and had to be closed… my fault not the fan. A quick reparking facing away from the deluge and all was right in the world!😬 so beware when Mother Nature gets creative! The Maxxair fans require a consistent 12v of power. When my solar panels get my batteries to 100%…. The pesky Maxxair fans SHUT OFF!!! I turn them back on and they almost immediately shut off. Similarly when connected to shore power (which can charge my humble 300ah lifepo4’s in a blink) the fans shut off! What’s funny is that in the summer when I’m glad to have my batteries charged completely to run the fans, the full charge sets in at the hottest part of the day… which means while I’m roasting my ‘unmentionable’ off, the fans go on break. I found that I have to disconnect from solar so my batteries can deplete as the fans do their thing! I recently learned of a small device to put between power source and fan. What it’s designed to do is maintain a clean 12v. It eliminates the problems experienced when greater than 12v is available. (Similar issues occur when underpowered) The outside of the fan is plastic and not a very durable one. Sadly when placed on a roof and allowed to bathe beneath southwestern US sunshine all day, something’s gotta give. The plastic gets brittle on every piece even what’s below the outside shroud and careless bumping into it will fracture the plastic. The white outside shroud or lid lets in a ton of light. If you like sleeping in total darkness or the very hint of daylight in your berth forces you to consciousness, I suggest a sleep mask. I took tbe novel approach of cleaning sanding and painting the exterior lid with Flex seal. It hardly affected the intrusion of daylight but has strengthened the fans lid. Next year I may repeat the process on the inside to help darken the room. It also offers a bit of sound deadening and keeps the plastic underside a tad cooler. The fan is expensive but easy to install, reliable, and full featured. It’s quirky when you need it to function flawlessly but there is a plethora of helpful advice on the web to help you sort it all out. Overall a sound investment. When these two break down for good I’ll replace with the exact same thing but I’ll pre paint the housing etc with flex seal because I think it’s a wise bit of protection for plastic that Doesn’t play well with sunlight. This unit comes complete, it was very easy to install and it works well. It moves a lot of air and is nice and quiet.

After installing this fan and using it a few days I am happy to say that it has exceeded my expectations. I had a MaxxAir cover on my old RV vent and the ability to always leave the vent open is something I really missed with our new RV. So I was pleased to find this product that seemed to combine the MaxxAir concept with a fan and a remote. It works as advertised plus it has a few other features they don't mention for some reason. First of all, most fans are mounted directly to the roof so removing it means breaking the seal with the roof and many screws. This one has a simple plastic mount piece that is attached to the roof and the entire fan unit slips into that. So later if you want to take it out for any reason you remove just 4 screws on the side of the plastic mount, unplug two wires, pull up and it comes completely out. Very nice. Since this fan is more complicated there are more things to go wrong so this might be a welcome feature, not that I'm expecting that. It seems very well made. Another nice feature is that it uses a modern chopper circuit for controlling the fan speed. Every other RV fan I've seen use resistors to drop down the fan speed which is very low-tech. They get hot and waste energy. Most often we are on battery using our fan (otherwise the AC would be on) so it always annoys me to know that not only am I wasting battery but heating the RV (slightly) to boot. Even though it's more powerful than my old fan it draws less power at the lower speeds because of the chopper circuit. For example, at the middle speed the old fan draws 0.9 amps and the new one 0.8, and it's moving more air. Because it has more speeds (10 vs 3) the lower speed is lower. The lowest speed uses 0.6 amps with the old fan vs 0.17 amps on the new, and it's nearly silent. At the top speed it takes more current, 2.3 amps vs 1.26 on the old fan, but it's more powerful so that's to be expected. The extra air flow will be nice on those really hot days. The last thing is that it is not as big as the original MaxxAir units. It doesn't have to be. The MaxxAir units had to fit over the original open vent requiring a larger and clunky design. Since they don't have to accommodate a hatch cranked all the way open, they could start from scratch and design a lower profile and sleeker looking unit. So even without considering the fan it's a better MaxxAir unit just for ventalation. My wife has a disability that makes it difficult to reach the fan, so the remote is a very nice feature. That was the reason I bought this fan. However I think they could appeal to a much wider audience if they pitched it just as a top-of-the-line MaxxAir with fan. The remote could be placed last in their feature list as the quality features are what really sell it. I remember seeing the ad's before but passed it over because it looked like a gimmicky product for lazy people who didn't want to get off their rear ends to turn a knob on their fan. It is obviously much more than that. The remote is very well designed and love it now that I have it, but I didn't know I wanted one until I had it.

This is one of the nicest fans on the market. It sure move the air and on lower speeds is very quiet. Good quality product.
