Black Women's Mental Health: Balancing Strength and Vulnerability

This book was written with love and sound clinical evidence
As a black woman, nurse and a patient, I felt that this text spoke to the real stresses and challenges that are uniquely and disproportionately affecting black women. It provided a review of clinical evidence of how race, a flawed healthcare system, politics and an extensive history of violence and oppression impact the wellbeing of black women. The strength that has brought us to success has also cost us our mental and physical wellbeing. This text discusses changes on the micro, meso, and macro levels of society have the potential to improve the quality of care to black women. I recommend this book to anyone seeking evidenced based answers to black women’s mental wellness needs.

A must read for ALL who want to know Black Women
I needed this book and you do too! I have dyslexia and was able to understand it all. It's not an overwhelming read all chapters are surveys and short stories which made it easy to read. This book is so needed for the black community.

Disappointed
I bought the book because I heard great things and was so excited… until I started to read it. I can always tell if a book is going to catch my attention in the first few pages. I pressed on. The book talks at you, not to you. While there are some point that I could agree on, this book should have been a research paper. It doesn’t flow and the authors did a horrible job in my opinion of making it interesting. I kept on reading because i kept saying it’ll get better.. it never did.
