When I tried the same with a Dell U473D Slim Multimedia Keyboard with 2 USB Port I had to use the pawer supply that came with the HB-UMP3 4-port Powered USB hub. I would advise getting the powered hub because you don't know if your USB port will support enough devices without the power supply unit. **Q: How many ports can I have active at one time, without overloading the single port of the computer?** A: actually, while you can theoretically link 127 devices, there is a limitation to the depth or hiearchy you can link hubs (which is 7). In many systems (particularly windows) you may find that the hub controller in the pc can consumer 2 or 3 of those tiers. While that's likely not an issue for most, I've run into a problem when I link a 7 port hub into a KVM switch -- I get an error message stating that the system can not see some devices (because the actual 7 port hub actually contains 2 usb controllers and the kvm switch contains 2 controllers). Suffice it to say -- this is a rare occurrence -- just don't daisy chain a bunch of 4 port hubs together if you run out of ports -- get a hub with more ports **Q: How long is USB3 cable?** A: measured mine at about 1 meter. I really like this thing. The two red high-power only ports are oriented 180 degrees from the USB 3.0 ports so you physically can't mix them up either. **Q: Will using a 7 usb 3.0 hub ultimately put next to no strain on my motherboard because power is being generated from the AC adapter?** A: I 5 Gigabyte Motherboard with powerful Intel processor, 16 Ram has moor paver than standard PC. I don't think the hub would help. However, some software might. Like another reviewer mentioned, there are times where coming out of sleep and it is powered, it requires unplugging and plugging back in for the system to detect it. Normally it would be a negative but it happens. Formerly in IT responsible for approving products, there is no perfect product because of the huge amount of possible combinations out there and it shows in product reviews of the product because you will hear of the one combination that did not work. The hub has no problems with 2 other DELLs, 1 HP Envy, or a Lenovo laptop and a dozen desktops just this oddball Spectre.Back to the review:This product works well and the individual buttons are quite helpful. For those really picky about build quality, the blue LED light is only bright on the side facing the ports but the clear ring circles the buttons. The buttons have a little more play than buttons on a PS4/xbox controller. We have 2.5 of these (more later) and the male and female plugs are snug and solid feeling. They all come with unique serial numbers and has a decent build feel to it. The use of the buttons helps wear and tear on cords and plugs since I don't have to pull out USB units I am not using. Since I travel and this laptop, keyboard, mouse, fan, etc. is my primary computer, this inexpensive feature saves wear and tear on $1000+ of equipment. My personal experience is that keeping things on when you don't need them puts more wear and tear on the device and the laptop's circuitry. Another nice feature is that the hub works with or without the power plug. If you just need usb power for your fans without hooking it to a computer, you can use it unplugged. If there is enough power for the ports, there is no voltage/amp difference on which port you plug it into which is a problem on cheaper hubs. (Tested with multimeter)About the 2.5 units, the first one I received threw error messages on my HP Spectre, At that time, I got an email for a review from Sabrent and although I wasn't sure about cause of the problem, they quickly sent me a replacement. Ethernet to usb, external hard drive, mouse, flash drives. And I really needed something to fit my needs. I found many devices that I thought would fit my needs, some looked tad nice than this one (with brushed aluminum and sleeker designs), but this was the best one I could find that had a power adapter. One main concern I had was powering my external hard drive. I didn't want it to run on low power, which can damage the drive. And having multiple devices plugged into one port doesn't supply them all with the right amount of power. So this one it is!I received the item from my residence hall's front desk (go college!). Prime 2 day shipping worked like a breeze (unlike last time...). As soon as i received the box, i turned it on its side to carry it with one hand: and I could feel the contents of the box shift and smack the bottom of the box. My heart sank. I bought this with the UTechSmart Uranus mouse (review here: ). Opening returning to my room I opened it and found that they had only but bubble wrap between the two items, and not around the two items. What idiot packed my box?!?!?!
