Great boots! They come in Wide!!
My child’s class has had a field trip to a nature preserve every year so far, and my old generic hiking boots from a big box store were not cutting it, as they didn’t come in wide so I had to size up, which of course ended up giving my blisters and not supporting my ankles well.i was so happy to find real hiking boots that come in women’s wide! These fit a lot like New Balance. I wear a 9.5 Wide in Brooks and a 9 Wide in New Balance, and the 9 Wide in these boots fit perfectly, still with enough room for proper hiking socks. I am not a hiker (lifelong ankle problems), but these are super useful to have. I wear them for any time I get to do hiking type activities, but also just for errands etc when it’s raining and I don’t want to deal with wet socks from wearing running shoes. I find these have good ankle support, and the footbed is removable so I can put my trusty Superfeet Berry inserts in them. The platform of these boots is wide enough and solid enough to give me great arch support with my inserts. They are a bit stiff but in a good way—they’re supportive. I didn’t not find them uncomfortably stiff even when brand new. I do like to feel support for my feet and ankles though—I find the minimal shoe trend horrifying. I have not had any issues with the soles slipping, and I wear them often when it’s wet out. Not sure how they would perform in icy conditions, but I don’t think they’re made for that. They keep my feet cool enough in the summer and fall, despite being full leather. I purchased them on sale for about sixty bucks and feel they were a great value. They seem to be good quality and the fit is perfect.

Better than I expected
In all honesty, I bought these boots because it was Prime Day and the price was right. I like Columbia jackets, but probably would have replaced my old boots with a different tried-and-true hiking shoe brand if the price on these hadn’t been so good at the time. I checked some reviews here and elsewhere and saw that lots of people were happy with these. I wore them on one intermediate local hike to break them in, but they surprisingly didn’t need any real breaking in. They were good to go right away. I ended up wearing them on a week-long family trip to Iceland where we did a ton of hiking and walking. They were comfortable, durable, and held up very well on the rocky terrain and wet weather (my feet stayed completely dry!). I definitely jammed my toe on a few rocks, but didn’t feel a thing in these shoes - they kept my feet very protected. Best of all, they wore well from the remote volcanic areas of Iceland with my athletic wear, to the streets of Reykjavik with a pair of jeans and a sweater. Also, I have flat feet with a very strong pronation (see photo), and my feet and ankles didn’t tire out in these boots at all. If I’d had the time, I would have added some inserts for arch support (and will do so for the next hike), but I was pleasantly surprised at how well these were able to support my poorly designed feet without them. For those wondering about sizing, I typically wear a size 7.5 to 8, depending on the shoe. I got these in 8 and they fit perfectly. I was worried because with hiking socks, it felt like my big toe might be too close to the front of the boot, but it turned out to be totally fine and no issues at all. My toes never slid or hit the front.

Love these hiking boots!!
I have purchased these boots multiple times (on the third pair of black ones). They have taken me all over the world. They are perfectly designed for my narrow foot and I can walk miles with them just out of the box - without any blisters. I never get sore feet. Perhaps I have a foot suited to the boots - or maybe they are just great hiking boots. My last trip I walked more than 200 miles in the Algerian Sahara on really rough rocky terrain - I wore them every day for every mile and then bought another pair as soon as I got home. I figured they earned their retirement after that trip. They are waterproof, comfortable, nice looking (not overly tech) and with the hooks for the last two laces they are pretty easy on and off in the airport. I did trip once (at the airport ironically) when the loop of one boot hooked on the other boots top hook - so tie them twice to not have large loops - or I am clumsy. They are also really light weight - and love the suede feel of the exterior. They clean up pretty good as well with a damp cloth although the boots do get scuffed and scratched up a bit - character. They have great cushion - but not too much that they feel bulky - and great ankle support yet feel flexible. Basically they are perfect and I wear them traveling and for work (on construction job sites) in any weather and everywhere else!! I am sure I will keep buying them and I hope they keep making them. Photo is after climbing a 500 ft. tall dune - resting at the top! They didn't even have too much sand (ok they had a lot of sand) in them after that. Love these hiking boots - thank you Columbia!!

Extremely good value, but watch your sizing
I bought these on an incredible promotion over the holidays and love them! I have 2 dogs that require a lot of walking, and I find that my walks are best when over a variety of terrain. I also walk in all weather. The Columbia Newton Plus boots fit my need for a light hiking boot that will keep my feet dry and comfortable. Initially, I was skeptical. In general, I wear an 8.5 shoe if the shoe is true to fit. So few are. Therefore I ordered a size 9 and discovered that yes, the 9 was slightly large. I experienced the same kind of pressure on my big toe as others here have mentioned. I felt the boot material was stiff, and I doubted that it would ever feel comfortable. However, by then I'd already worn the boots outside. I figured I'd suck it up and wear thick socks. Well, fast forward about 2 weeks and what a difference! Fast forward about 6 weeks and I feel the boot has formed more to my foot. I love the support. The sole feels good on harder surfaces and yes, so far it seems waterproof. I am very happy, and I hope that I can get at least 2 good seasons out of these before I walk through the tread. I would strongly recommend these to people, but be aware that they do run closer to the large side of true to size, so take that into consideration. I'd probably be able to wear an 8.5 and still have thick socks on, for example. Even with heavy socks, my foot shifts around a little bit (but doesn't rub or blister) in the 9. I also would recommend that if you use them in the summer, you use them in cooler climates. These are fairly warm, and if you wear them in the summer in hotter areas, your feet will definitely sweat a lot. Anyway, these were a great value and I like the overall boots. Just be careful about the sizing and the conditions. Update:. Here it is, two years later and I am still happy with my purchase. The tread is totally shot and the boot is no longer waterproof, but they did last 2 years. I did use waterproofing spray to help lengthen the waterproofing, but this year the boot leather is cracking. I am still wearing them, but more as my messy yardwork boots.

If you’re looking for what size to buy - read this!!!
Ultimately, I ended up with my normal size and I would not recommend sizing up as many other reviews suggest. I am a size 8.5-9 (usually 8.5 in flats & pumps and most shoes but sometimes a 9 in boots and athletic shoes). So I bought these same boots in Sizes 8.5, 9, and 9.5. First I tried on the 9.5 because so many people said to size up ... and, on first impression, I thought they fit and I couldn’t imagine going down a whole size. However after wearing around the house, my arches began to ache and my feet felt like they had too much room in the toe box so I could tell they were going to rub and get blisters. I went down to the 9 ... again, they felt like they fit and didn’t think I could go down any more. I wore them around the house for a couple hours and noticed the toe box creasing painfully on top of my toe (instead of where they foot bends) as other reviewers mentioned. The arch support didn’t feel sufficient either. I went down to size 8.5 and my first instinct was that they were too tight. I felt my toe touch the end and some squeezing around the sides of my feet that I was afraid would get sore. However, I put my foot in barefoot and then I could feel my it actually had room to slide up and down about a half inch along the insole within the shoe when I wasn’t putting weight on it. When I stood up and tapped my heel to the back of the boot then, when I put weight on it, my toes did not touch the front. I think the back of the boot is quite padded and so it can take up space when you first step into the boot and push your foot forward. I put on thick hiking socks and wore them around the house for several hours. They did feel tight at first but yet were the most comfortable. The arch support was perfect, the toe creased in the right place (even when squatting or kneeling) and the foot was snug enough to not rub and get friction. Even though the side was still squeezing my right foot a bit, It did not get sore. So I kept the 8.5 and put them to the test crewing at an event in Miami where it was 90 degrees out and we were working with a 1600 degree fire and lots of water - therefore my boots needed to be genuine leather and waterproof. I was working on my feet in them for 4-5 hours in a wet, dirty environment and standing for long periods on hard pavement. These held up and did the job wonderfully. My feet were comfortable, safe, dry and blisterless ... and amazingly not sore. The grey leather also stayed impressively clean looking and was easy to clean off any dirt on them. So bottom line: I found to order true to size and let loosen up for best fit. As many say, they are comfortable right out of the box (almost like a running shoe) so don’t take extreme breaking in ... but don’t be scared off if they feel a little tight at first because leather is good quality and does soften. *However, I will say that there may be also slight size discrepancy between each shoe and/or the different colors. I tried an 8.5 in the tan/red version and those felt shorter and wider in the toe box than the grey ones.

Good Brand and Great Quality
***2nd Update- it's been 3 years and these boots are still going strong! I have recommended them to everyone I know who has even a semi-active lifestyle. I wear them probably 5 times a week and there are no soft spots on the soles, no thread tears/holes. They still look fantastic. Over the course of 7 days, my husband and I walked 96 miles at Disney World. My sneakers gave me blisters halfway through Day 1. I switched to these boots and, while I didn't win any beauty contest for wearing shorts and boots, I did save myself and my feet from a lot of pain! **Update- Well, I've had these for seven months and they've become my everyday work shoe. I originally bought them for a month-long trip to Europe; my feet are usually very easily blistered, but even after a month of endless walking, I never once even had sore feet. When I got home from the trip, I started wearing them to work. I love that they give so much support without looking like a clunky hiking boot. I can't recommend this enough, best purchase of 2017.** I want to start off by saying that these are the first pair of hiking boots I've ever owned--so I have nothing to compare them to other than regular tennis shoes. I bought these in my true size despite some reviews saying to buy a size up--but these fit perfectly so it worked out great. I wear padded hiking crew socks with these and there's enough room in the shoes without getting that "too tight" feeling. The first day I wore them, my ankles were sore and I nearly returned them but then I discovered that there are different lacing techniques to fix this problem, so I tried the Heel Lock technique and it completely fixed the problem. There was no break-in period, the shoes have been comfortable since day 1 and, as long as you are wearing the right socks, the back doesn't rub and blister the backs of your ankles. I haven't submerged them to test out the waterproof claim, but it rains a lot where I live and my feet are never wet after trudging through rain puddles. Very happy with the purchase and I highly recommend these shoes

Bought in 2023, still buying in 2026!
Bought my first pair in 2023, every year, or closer to two years, I end up buying a Columbia waterproof hiking boot! Its now 2026 I just bought another pair but the "Transverse" without metal lace eyelets to try the fabric lace eyelets version this time I bought it in a store. I work in a dirty industry with a lot of salt that can destroy a regular running shoe in less than 3 months. So getting a year or even two out of a single pair of boots is amazing! It always fits well, stays really dry even in wet conditions, rain, puddles, work surfaces, muddy hiking trails, I am clumsy and the only issue I have sometimes is if I walk too closely to my own feet, the laces can get caught on the upper hook and I'll trip over myself getting caught by my own shoes and laces. But I haven't hurt my ankle or anything just trip up. I am really hard on my shoes but I try to use mink oil about 2-3x a year to help the longevity and it really works. Probably the best work boots I've owned. I never have to add extra cushion or insoles either! It's rarely ever moist inside after a hard summer day either. Dry in no time. Excellent boots.

Great quality hiking boots!
The Columbia Newton Ridge Plus are a very good quality fall/winter hiking boots that performs well on trails, but can look great also in casual looks. I love to hike and I need good quality boots to keep my feet warm and safe. The first time I wore them, I took them on a 3 hour trail walk. Leather shoes usually need some time to break them in, but these were very comfortable from the beginning. I also wore them for a 4 days trip in the Yosemite Valley, in the winter. They kept my feet warm (with appropriate stockings) and dry in both rain and snow. I did lots of hiking and my feet did not hurt at all. The boots are very lightweight, while looking a little bulky (I like this look). On icy surfaces they are a little slippery. The boots look very nice and I can also wear them in the city without looking like I'm on a hike. It's quite a nice styling piece with jeans or leggings (although I wear them with casual skirts/dresses as well). The boots fit me as expected (I wear 7.5 but I bought them in size 8 to be able to wear thicker socks in the winter). With very thin socks I could wear a 7. I have a medium width foot and these are perfectly fitted, maybe a little too fitted with thick socks; if you have even slightly wide fit I would recommend a wider size, since the construction of the boots doesn't allow flexibility. March 2018 update (after December 2016 purchase): The leather shows after one year some wear, but otherwise the hiking boots lasted very well in time (the sole shows minimal signs of wear). These boots protected me from cold and water in many hikes and vacations; I just love them more and more. I would repurchase them again when they'll be all used up and beaten up. Pictures are taken recently.

Genial.
Ligeras, impermeables, antideslizantes, buen agarre, duras, pero no demasiado... tenía unas que no podía conducir con ellas, con estas sí. Parecen resistentes. Sólo he andado 6km, pero bien. Quedan muy bien puestas. La talla es un poco olgada. Tal vez en vez del 40, el intermedio ajustaba mejor, pero muy cómodas

A little hard
Have used them only once but they help up well and didn't need breaking in. The sole is very hard though. The slightly bigger size meant I could fit a softer inner sole in which I did. I don't know that i would have been quite so pleased with the boots had i not had some extra cushioning.

Achei super confortável, e a impermeabilização parece boa

Perfect fit, no break-in required!
I love these boots. I was skeptical about the other reviews saying the fit was right and there was no need to break in the boots, but its true! I've been wearing them at least twice a day, everyday since I got them. I take the dog for long ocean side walks, going in and out of tide pools, creeks, puddles, and mucky mud, and these boot have been perfect. My feet stay dry, the mud wipes off the uppers, and the tread is solid so my footing is stable even on the rockiest shore. In the summer I do a lot of mountain hikes and I think these would hold up to that use as well. They're probably not up to the demands of more technical mountaineering, but for day hikes they are great. I would definitely recommend these to anyone wanting a comfortable, waterproof daily walking/hiking boot. I'll probably buy a second pair in a fashion colour for the summer :)
