I wanted to like this
I bought this because the concept was brilliant, however it just wasn't practical. It does work to find drywall screws holding the drywall to the framing members behind the drywall but you have to move it very slowly and watch very closely to all the magnets. Part of the issue may be that the one I received had a slight bow in it not allowing it to lay flat against the wall without applying a little force which restrict the movement across the wall.

It works
It works, you just feel dumb sliding it around forever to find the stud. Just spend the extra cash on an electric one you just put in the wall, the sound of the magnets jumbling around while you try to watch to see if one of the like 10 magnets makes any movement. Rough painted surfaces kinda don't work well, it's gotta be smooth so it doesn't make any false positives, you'll drag it along the wall and the slightest bump makes all the magnets bounch while you try to find the ONE magnet that finds a stud. It's wack. It works, but takes longer to find a stud.

Looks cheap, but works like a charm
1- this is an ingenious, simple, elegant product that works like a charm for finding studs behind walls2- it works on the principle of finding nails/screws that hold studs in place. The solution? Magnets3- yes, the whole item looks cheap, but it works.4- the ruler, level bubble, and magnets for marking the studs all look like a Dollar Tree item, but does it matter when it works exactly as advertised.5- move the ruler slowly over a wall until one of the magnets wobbles or shakes. Confirm by placing a florescent yellow thumb magnet over area & mark as needed. Done. Repeat as needed.6- this is way better than the units I have purchased for 3-4x the cost of this item & they don't work near as well & require batteriesSo yes, this item looks cheaply made, but it will work 5x longer than any battery operated digital stud finder on the market today & you don't have to spend a fortune on it. Sometimes simple & cheaper is better than $$$$

The ONLY stud finder you will need to buy
I usually never leave a review, but this stud finder deserved one.At first, I honestly didn't think it was going to work. I have owned a couple others, one in orange and another in blue. Both came with a hefty price tag and a complex long manual. Last week, when I tried to find a stud to hang a family portrait I realized that both were left with the batteries in and they had corroded. I was very upset at having to trash them after all the money paid. So at a discounted price, a bit over what a pack of batteries would have cost me I decided to give this a chance.I can only say that I am really impressed. Packaging was simple, instructions were only just common sense pointers and I was done finding where to mount my frame within seconds. It comes with two handy magnetic markers, so nothing additional was needed. Just slide the finder over the wall at a slow pace holding it from its handle and you will see the round magnets shake. I wasn't sure it was this simple to find a stud, so I tried it once more at a higher location and again within seconds another set of magnets started to shake at the same stud. No more corroded batteries to deal with. This is definitely a tool you must have handy. At this price I will get one for my in-laws and one for my neighbor who used to ask for my help all the time. Amazing, something so simple yet so powerful.

Awesome Tool: super Quick & Easy to use -- 12x more magnets than competitors -- No battery needed!
I very rarely write a review, but the EZ Stud Finder made putting up my daughter's chair rail so easy that I'm excited to rave about it! After getting so frustrated with the previous two studfinders I tried that I delayed finishing this project for years, once this tool came Sunday evening, I had the chair rail up in 30 minutes. It takes only about 5 seconds to find a stud after moving on from the previous one, because there are 12 magnets "looking" for the concealed nail (not just 1 magnet, as in most magnetic studfinders). (See in the photo how the second magnet from the top has "found" the nail in the stud, whereas the other 4 magnets are at the bottom of their "gravity wells.") 12 magnets = 1/12th the time! The 2 magnet markers are very ingenious: no pencil marks or post-it-note arrows needed to indicate where a stud/nail has been found. Just put one Marker on the first nail located (it holds itself in place exactly over the nail), then the second Marker on the nail above or below it in the same stud, and you have a clear line to nail along. With a level and a 12-inch straight edge built in, this tool is easily worth $20. A must-have for the DIY-er!!

I really really wanted to like this...
This seemed to be a clever alternative to expensive and bulky electronic stud finders and I was excited to use it to mount a TV to the wall. First off, the level came off right after it was opened and would need to be super glued to stay back on. We decided we could just use the level once it was up, no big deal. The magnets were such a pain and didn't respond as easily as shown in the video and were inaccurate. Now we have a hole in the drywall which will have to be patched at some point before we leave our apartment. It's not worth it to go through a return so into the trash it goes. Please, stick with an electric stud finder.

It's ok.
So, I bought this to find the studs on my wall so I can put up a TV mount. I'd have to say that the magnets that are in the ruler aren't as strong as I thought, or as they "need" to be, to find studs in the walls. As I moved the stud finder around I could see the magnets shaking a bit, but they didn't hold much. I think it's also because the studs in the walls could possibly be farther away, but it just goes back to what I started off with - the magnets aren't strong enough to help you detect the exact placement of the stud in the wall.

Inconsistent
Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I couldn't always get accurate reads in the same spot, even though I recalibrated. For the most part it works for a small project needing to hang one or two pictures.
