LN661300 Lenovo DC Power Jack 3000 C200, 3000 N100, 3000 N200 DC Jack

My Lenovo 3000 N100 series laptop suddenly stopped charging the battery. It will not even turn on with AC power. I did google and found that the problem may be due to broken power jack. I was hesitated to repair this as I thought this will need fabricating power jack on mother board and I do not have required tools for that. I readh hardware manual and found nothing about power jack. Anyway I went ahead and ordered this power jack as it costs only $3 so I will not lose much even if it does not work. To my surprise I found that the power jack has a connector to the mother board and the jack cable can easily be replaced. I connected this new cable to the motherboard and bingo, my laptop started working again. It is now charging the battery too.This $3 purchase saved $600-$1000 as I was going to buy a new laptop.

I think it is great that Lenovo used these replaceable little wiring harnesses from the power jack of the laptop to an internal power connector. That way they avoid the ubiquitous failure mode of the power jack breaking the solder joints on the motherboard over time. This happens to many laptops, which is why Apple created their magnetic power connection.
