100A Car Battery Load Tester and Voltmeter, for Batteries Up to 1000 Cranking Amps, Charging System Diagnosis, for 6V/12V Power Sport, Automotive, and Marine Batteries, BT-100

I bought this to replace one of the exact same model that I bought probably 20 years or so ago. The other one was damaged by my carelessness and was still working great after all these years. It is a great way to put a "load" on a battery to test for weak or damaged cells and will quickly let you know if the battery is the problem or whether I should look elsewhere.

This battery load tester is perfect.no electronic gizmos to break. Just plain old analog simplicity that works every time.

Tried and true battery tester. Old reliable.

My reason for purchasing this load tester was to diagnose a battery that had died a few times in my mother-in-law‘s car. For some reason I did not have one of these in my toolbox and figured this was a cheap way to add one. I have read other reviewer‘s who talked about the accuracy of the gauge on this unit and the build quality. Just to give you an idea exactly what this load tester is. This is a metal box with a heating element inside. The idea behind this is that you take a voltage measurement of the battery, then attach this and press the button for between 5 and 10 seconds and check the battery voltage again. The voltage should not drop more then a half a volt or so. If you’re starting voltage is less than 12.5 you cannot trust the results you would get. I would suggest you charge the battery until the voltage is 12.5 or higher. The heating element in this tester mimics a heavy load from your vehicle. This will help you determine if your battery can hold enough charge to start your car. I use a digital multimeter for all of my voltage measurements. At this price point I would not rely on the gauge on any tool to do that for me. My main purpose for purchasing this tool was to be able to apply a heavy load to a battery. I do not expect this tool to give me accurate measurements of a battery’s health. This review has gone on a lot longer than what I originally anticipated. Before I end this I want to mention the smell that comes from this unit. As I mentioned above there is a heating element inside of this metal box, any dust or other contaminants that end up on the heating element will burn off when you apply a load. That is expected. Any electrical heating element reacts this way and should not be cause for alarm.

The product performed well and is very economical for pinpointing issues with starting problems.

All of our local auto stores offer free battery testing but it's a hassle and if a battery tests out bad, I'd feel obligated to buy one from that store as opposed to a better offering. The dual batteries on my truck started getting weak in cooler temps. I tested them after the truck sat for a couple days and came up with 12.05v which I know is just around 50% capacity and I know there aren't any drains. Using this, I determined the batteries weren't bad but they were in fact weak which isn't surprising since they're over 4 years old. The real reason I bought this was for our boat, which has 3 high performance AGM group 31 batteries that cost ~$500/ea and we typically refresh them every 3 years for safety and reliability. They're buried in the hull and not easy to get out, so if they're coming out they're getting replaced. With this I'll be able to more accurately assess the condition of the batteries and replace them when they test weaker than their stated cranking amps as opposed to just a time-based replacement, and the best part is I can leave them right where they are to test them. This is sure to save us money in the long run. The tool is simplistic, feels durable, and should last a long time.

Works great, load test to 15 secs, 10 secs recommended no problem. It does burn off the initial coating but that is written on unit.

I have many batteries at home for bikes cars camping and boat. I have used a similar style of tester for many years as a truck mechanic and are a fantastic product. I had a cheap digital tester but this didn't last two years. Avoid the digital and buy this mechanical style and it will give you years or service.

Very Good easy to use almost self explanatory.

Cannot go wrong with this one, Schumacher BT-100 is the leader and it is for a reason. Quality tool and from a very reliable company, cannot go wrong here every shade tree mechanic should have one on hand. Cheers.
