They will feel a little bit rough out of the package, but after washing and drying, they are nice and soft - the gauze fabric looks and feels similar to cotton muslin, but it is much thicker and more absorbent. We also use them when bathing our newborn baby - we soak one in the warm water and lay it over her belly and legs to keep her warm, since it covers much more of her than a washcloth.

Burp Cloths can be extremely pricey and not always that effective with absorption or spit-ups. My mom and neighbor both said that cloth diapers were the best. They were right! Forget the fancy and expensive burp cloths. These things are made for absorption...they are cloth diapers after all. You will reduce how frequently you have to do laundry with these gems. Yes, they don't have fancy designs, but nobody cares when it comes to cleaning up spit-up. The only thing that matters is that it can absorb the milk your baby just spit up all over himself or you. Also, there are many types of gerber cloth diapers, these are the best for laying flat if you plan on using them primarily as a burp cloth over your shoulder.
