Review: Fun Workout, Really Like It - I've done this workout 5 times over the last two weeks and I really like it. The music is great and the instructor isn't overly chatty. I rate this DVD as definitely beginner level. You'll need some weights, I use 4lb and 6lb weights. Gunnar's advice is light weights. This workout has a fun quality so time goes by fast. My only complaint is that, it seems like there is too much time between exercises if this is all I do. The first time I did the workout, it was so easy and I didn't break a sweat. Now (last 4 times) I do an aerobic or yoga routine first, and then I do this DVD. Since my heart rate is raised when I start this workout, I feel like I am doing gentle beginner High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). I get a good sustained sweat and I feel worked out. The DVD comes with 2 modules; an Intro and Workout. The Intro includes the warm-up. The Workout doesn't include a warm-up it goes straight into the exercises. The format is 3 or 4 exercises with 8 to 15 reps. Once you complete the combination, you jump rope for 20 seconds and then you repeat the combination for a total of 2 sets and then jump rope for 20 seconds again. Then, you move to the next combination of 3 or 4 exercises for 2 sets and jump rope. With each combination, you'll target a different muscle group which includes: upper body and chest, back and shoulders, lower body, abs standing and floor abs. Some exercises, especially standing abs are more than 15 reps. Below is the first combination: Iron cross (11 reps), this is functional, works chest, back, shoulders, biceps, triceps Lunges (8 reps each leg), for some reason they feel modified woodchuck (9 reps each side) this one is also functional, works obliques, back, and legs jump rope 20 seconds and then repeat combination The next combinations include chest, biceps, triceps and triceps lunges, deadlift with hammer curl's, rear delt raise, shoulder raise, and etc. Between each combination you'll jump rope for 20 seconds. The hardest exercise in my opinion is the push-ups on the weights and alternating lifting each arm with weight (9 per set). I do the modifier which is push-ups on my knees and alternate lifting each arm without the weights. There are 2 sets of crouch jumps which are surprisingly short and easy (10 per set). The last combination of exercises target the abs from different angles (floor work). Some back work is included which I really like. I feel like there is a lot of variety in this routine and that I get a good balanced workout.
Review: Quick and effective workout. - Good workout. Builds strength and cardio together.
