The card style part, is plastic. It is hard to slide open, and the lock picks are of a metal but not that strong. From my experience with them I would class this item as more gimmick.

Thickness is 0.5mm (or around 20 thou). That's about 'medium' for a lock picking tool. Thickness is a trade off between being thin enough to get the pick into the lock, and thick enough for strength. I'd say that for a cheap set like this, they've got it about right.

Where do I get instructions

There’s a few books on Amazon,like the fbi book on lock picking that are very helpful,get some transparent practice locks off Amazon,the picks are too big for most locks, good luck
