There is no exposed steel on the handle. If i had to guess i would say it is pretty close to full tang. **Q: how long is the blade? tom** A: The blade itself is 18”, the entire machete including the handle is 23 5/8”. **Q: is that polypropylene hilt grippy?** A: Yes it's perfect **Q: So is there reay a big chip in the blade?** A: Chip? No. Big nasty burr though.
