The BirkSun Boost Pack is simple, efficient and inspired by modern shapes and styles. Free yourself from being tied to a wall outlet and use the power of the sun to charge your devices on the go. Simply plug a USB device (using the standard cables that came with your device, or you can buy extra BirkSun branded cables) into the patented USB connector sewn into the bag, and start charging. You can also super- power your Charger by combining with a BirkSun Power Bank (external batteries that have been optimized to take a solar charge; sold separately). Plug any BirkSun Power Bank into the Charger's connector to capture and store the power of the sun for later use. It includes a 15-inch fleece laptop sleeve, organizational front pocket, and neoprene organizer sleeve.

Good condition but partly disfunctional
Good condition but partly disfunctional..solar panel works but the battery that's supposed to store a 10% charge for my phone does not work. I suggest just ordering from birksun.com ..silly me.

awesome for music festivals and traveling
Purchased this backpack a few months ago directly from birksun.com so that I could charge my phone at music festivals. It works well and the interior was actually nicer than I thought it would be and held up to some pretty aggressive use. The fleece laptop sleeve is a nice touch. The solar panels work as long as you are in relatively direct sunlight. I use an iPhone 5s.If you take it for what it is: a pretty nice backpack with the capability to charge your phone in the event you lose battery when your traveling, you'll be good.

I've been pretty stoked with my BirkSun
I've been pretty stoked with my BirkSun. The solar panel definitely needs to be pointed in direct sunlight for it to charge, but when in direct sunlight, works great.I also have the battery pack which for me is the more important part for reliable charging when traveling. I am not always in direct sunlight when I need to charge my phone....or want to. So having back-up power stored in a battery is crucial.Overall, great product, sleek design, and very fun. Highly recommend.

Good backpack, awesome solar charging capabilities
I really wasn't considering a solar backpack but I came across this product and for $100 bucks seemed to be worth a shot. Other backpacks of similar quality seem to cost around $75 so for $25 more I can get a solar charger in my backpack! I'll take it.Anyways, the zippers are well made (YKK) and the solar panel is pretty powerful. It seems to charge my iPhone 5C 1% every 3 minutes I'm in the sun. I don't use the solar part of the bag every day but I like the peace of mind I can always charge my phone and the bag is great as it is.

2015 update.
Product update December 2015:I bought this last year for my trip I took in November-December. It worked just fine at first. I went to the Philippines and Japan hoping this backpack would help charge my stuff as well. I plugged in our wifi so it can charge but it did nothing. Philippines is very sunny and I was under the sun most of the time and it didn't charge any of our things. I was pretty upset and disppointed because I was showing off my backpack and it didn't even work. Also! This backpack causes more security checks through TSA because of the black box in the small pocket. It looks unusual so you have to get stopped and backpack goes through screening more than once. I wouldn't take this on another trip.If you're planning on using this on a trip, I would advise against it. Just use those small recharable usb travel power packs. My sister n law used that throughout our trip. Put my backpack to shame.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Very useful. I love the color, fits everything I need. Its good to know my stuff won't die lol. A bit pricey but its worth it
